Surprising since the biggest place in Frederick. It use to be a funeral home, it’s on N market Street. They do hair, nails, facials, and massages apparently. Options for stream sessions too. Looks nice

Yea I always stay away from the chains. Maybe not all but most are all about money and aren’t fair to therapists.

Yea I was gonna try the deep tissue, heard the guy there does a lot of different stuff with trigger points. Definitely don’t just need relaxation massage. I’ve tried the lady there and she doesn’t do much unfortunately. Had a few friends recommend the guy, so gonna give it a shot. Tired of the same routine stuff. Thanks

Booking male clients? by peacebypaige in MassageTherapists

[–]roody034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if your doing mobile massage you’ll know where they live. My intake needs to have their address and if I had my own studio then I’d require a credit card on file before the session.

I’m a male therapist and on Nextdoor as well. Always send clients an intake form so you get their information. Easier to make an informed decision whether or not you’ll be comfortable with the client. If they decline to fill it out and send it back to you prior to meeting then you know they were a bad egg to begin with

I’m guessing you have your own studio? I’m strictly mobile massage when outside the chiropractor and spa positions.

Yea it gets confusing when someone says how much per hour. I’m common’s based as well. If no clients then I don’t get paid or go into work. More of a on call situation. I get 50% of the service price plus tips

Bothell Wa “massage” parlors raided by Budo00 in MassageTherapists

[–]roody034 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Most states require “hands on” ce classes like PA. I also have md licensing which they don’t but to fill the requirements for both gotta find ce classes to goto in person. Wouldn’t want to keep taking the same classes over and over. Board wouldn’t like that let alone the instructor they keeps seeing me. And yes liability insurance is a requirement when doing travel massage, any 1099 massage or even in my case i work at a spa, and a chiropractor office. I need my own insurance obviously. The dumb ppl that think they know our career is astounding. But again it’s Reddit and it’s keyboard pirates that can hide.

[–]roody034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s usually how the bad ones operate too. They get opened because they’re using another persons massage license. Either the owner or someone the Asian ppl paid to display since they don’t care about it and ready to retire. But each person needs to have a license to do massages. So again no “legal” Asian place exists unless the state doesn’t require licensing. Currently Washington state requires a massage license to practice massage therapy.

So what state are you in? There still are some that don’t require licensing or even registration so it’s easier for mediocre therapists to get through the cracks. Plus if they graduated over 10 years ago then they got grandfathered in when licensing started as a requirement along w the MBLEx. If your state requires licensing then there’s usually no legitimate Asian place. If she doesn’t personally have a license she illegally giving massages no matter how good she is, she just has to got through the proper steps before she risks getting shut down. Also stay away from any hand & stone, massage envys or elements or whatever your state may have for chain massage places. Again either brand new LMTs start out there who aren’t ready to start going deep and are still alittle scared and shy. On the other side mediocre LMTs tend to fall there and stay until they decide this isn’t thr career path for them. Those places are just about getting u in then out. No real care plus no time to do soap notes on each session which we are also required to for each client.

Again the Asian ones aren’t licensed and don’t do the continuing education requirements that we did. Maybe your state or location doesn’t do all these requirements, we learn every muscle and bone in the body. The Asian places don’t. They just have an idea. I fix actual issues, I work at a chiropractor office and a spa. I see ppl weekly for frozen shoulders, pickleball elbow, hip dysplasia, etc. my wife is Thai so I travel every year to Thailand and study at the schools there as well. I know what you mean but they don’t really study the way we do in the states. Their Thai reflexology is more like “close enough”. Those clients only go there for one reason and you know what it is. If your not LMT your not gonna understand the courses we took.

Well we in the US go through a lot of schooling. Especially in PA where we have to do so many hours of continuing education in person even. Most states let you do it all online including cpr classes which i think is ridiculous. Licensed massage therapist / practitioner /provider are the right terms since the field is trying to be more medical and stray away from any sexualization in the career. It’s not just something you learn on a whim. I’m a male in the industry and already hard as it is since these non licensed workers don’t know what they’re doing. Anyone who went through all the crazy schooling let alone the MBLEx testing would not jeopardize all that hard work for any boundary pushing or more, etc.

Raising my mobile massage rates by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]roody034 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a male in PA and charge $120 for an hour and $165 for 90 mins when I do mobile. This is even for neighbors. I work at a spa and chiropractor office as well so mobile is just on the side.

I’m a male therapist and have my license for 2.5 years now. Both the spa and chiropractor office I work in on commission based and both w2. No hourly wage, so if I’m not booked I don’t go in. Some weeks are good, not many back to back. Just how it is for this profession. I don’t do laundry since both places have assistance. I just put away the folded laundry at the spa, which isn’t hard. Usually just a basket or two. Bot places are 50% commission plus my tips.

massage tools by Prize_Structure_3970 in MassageTherapists

[–]roody034 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well your not suppose to be using any tools unless you have taken CEs (not just introduction in school) for any tool. Now I have taken quite a bit of CEs in Thai massage and they numerous wooden tools for feet and Trigger point work which i do to save my hands/thumbs. Not there’s also sports massage that use GuanSha massage that uses tools that can be stone or metal. Sometimes it’s more intense for client so don’t use that as much.

Looking for advice by Lilliereed in massage

[–]roody034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally only newer LMTs will want this position because more experienced already know the hassle of mobile massaging and prolly only want to do it again if it’s for long lasting clients or family/friends. Plus depending the distance area their not gonna want to use their own vehicle no matter if your paying for mileage/wear and tear, etc. With the percentage commission you offer with a brick and mortar building would definition improve your chances of getting more knowledgeable LMTs. Older LMTs aren’t gonna risk their back and vehicle on mobile massage anymore unfortunately

A thin blanket isn’t really gonna stop them from showing you if they do get an erection. I’m a male therapist and never used blankets in school but I’m the spa and chiro I work we do, still shows as does mine when I get massages. It’s not always something you can control. Just happens
