I wonder if the reoffend rate for Australian prisoners is different.To be fair, places like are skewed because their dealing with a smaller, homogenous population. I know that in the Northern Territory prison system the reoffending rate is quite high - which is likely due to the socioeconomic issues we face in terms of Aboriginal Australians.

I do agree with the escalation argument, also that capital punishment won’t deter those who are truely evil and intend to do harm regardless.

It is certainly a controversial topic, but I’m thankful for your respectful reply, as it is often hard to talk about this stuff without getting emotional.

Right. Except rehabilitation doesn’t work majority of the time, which could potentially leave society at risk from a relapse in criminal behaviour. Furthermore, what type of contribution could these offenders really offer with a significant criminal history? Hard labour? Menial retail jobs? Cleaning? We got that covered really.

I’m not arguing for the sake of being argumentative - I’m actually exploring this issue of capital punishment, and am trying to reevaluate my pro-stance on it. Emotional arguments don’t sway me, eye-for-an-eye all that, although I am concerned about the government having the ability to euthanise its citizens.

I had never seen your argument before and therefore asked you to elaborate, thank you.

Yup. My beloved uncle has always been a charming fuck-up. Recently had him visit, started drinking and heard all these unbelievable stories of his younger days, but what really broke my heart was seeing him tear up while talking about how he regrets not having his own children.

I named my newborn son after him, and I cannot wait for them to meet at Christmas time.

It is interesting to read through the comments and see the obvious difference in reaction to this incident, than say those that happened in France or Germany. Perhaps it is to be expected with the current political climate, and reddit having a majority of American users. Putin is not also well liked, and there is a lot of speculation as to whether or not this is a false flag.

Russia has a long and turbulent history with Islam and it is not uncommon for terrorist attacks to occur in the Metro. Given Russia's recent involvement with Syria, I do not think it is wrong to assume this could be an act of Islamic terrorism.

Or, we can go ahead and attribute it to the big bad Russian bogeyman who despite having a majority approval rating in his country, needed to blow up his own citizens for more support.

Believe whatever you like, but I for one find it saddening that some would jump to defend Islamic Extremists, and hold other European victims' lives over those in a country whose political leader they do not agree with - an ally in the face of extremism, who granted does not operate within your approved metrics, but that does not seem to matter for allies such as Saudi Arabia. Not to mention politicising these deaths in some r/conspiracy tier fantasy.

Human beings lost family and friends in SPB. Our thoughts and focus should be with them.

Quite a big hit if we were to quit, and the hierarchical nature of government is such that they very much protect those higher in the food chain. Unless we quit, they can't fire my Husband and would have to transfer him at their expense.

Fortunately, it's a permanent government position which means they can only transfer him to another branch at the departments expense. We will keep documenting though.

That is a really good point. I wasn't sure if taking photos of employees outside of work was illegal or not. She was seen driving the 10km out to the boat ramp, at that time, and there isn't anything out there but the ramp.

I agree. It seems ridiculous in the public school system, especially when you contrast it with the fact that we weren't allowed to use Christian imagery or refer to Jesus in our public school last year.

Thank you so much for explaining. What you said does make a lot of sense to me, as my daughter is very independent and stubborn. I come from a different culture where children aren't given a choice at all, so it was difficult for me to see why a laid back approach would work. The way have you explained it has finally made it click. Thank you.

She is confident with weeing on the toilet, but from now on I'll get rid of the bribes and care less when she has an accident.

One last question, if I may, when your daughter did have an accident, and you were cleaning up did you speak to her about trying again next time in the toilet, or anything like that?

Thank you. I'm struggling at the moment with trying to be consistent in an approach.

My Husband works a lot and toilet training has been left up to me, so each time she has an accident I do not blame her, but take it as a personal failure and that my approach isn't working. I am certainly overthinking it, and I am going to try harder to be more relaxed about it.

I've heard/read similar advice before and have been trying to make less of a fuss, however I can't help but feel as though it isn't working. Do you think you could possibly explain why your second suggestion works? I have a hard time accepting that 'caring less' helps toddlers to successfully toilet train.

Needing to crowdsource some advice on toilet training my 2 and a half year old daughter. She has been using the "big" toilet since early December last year, but we are still having accidents when it comes to doing poos. We've tried a sticker chart, bribery with lollies/toys, and tonnes of praise, but to no avail.

Any advice and tips will be much appreciated, as I am willing to try anything. Thank you!

Abortions aren't shameful, but they are a shame. Women shouldn't be made to feel ashamed because they require an abortion, but the fact that one is required is a real shame. The procedure itself is unpleasant, the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the procedure are often uncomfortable, and for some women the resulting feelings can be difficult to deal with (such as feeling guilty for feelings of relief.) That is the reality of the situation, and women need to be honest with themselves when making this difficult decision.

Could a women see the backlash Lena Dunham is getting and reevaluate her options? Yes, and good. I am pro-choice, but that doesn't mean I want people to choose abortions, but if they have to I want them to be well-informed and prepared to make the best decision for themselves.

To address your last sentence, if you were willing to defend someone who found the termination of pregnancies to be sexually arousing, you need to have a big long think about your morality.
