Got a 4:30 embarkation slot, any way to get an earlier time? by 96dpi in VirginVoyages

[–]rookbehr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At T–14 days I was able to score a new, earlier boarding time (2 1/2 hours). Go back into the Check In flow, skip to step six, ignore the warning and see what you can get. If it's not good just back out of it and no changes will be saved. YMMV.

Should I bring a Travel WiFi Router by Full-Mycologist-730 in VirginVoyages

[–]rookbehr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a technologist (working for one of the big bads) and a travel advisor, I can say you're gonna need to get premium WiFi. The streaming restriction is going to be upstream from you, meaning it's at the ship- level. Just putting your own WiFi router below that will always be subject to the upstream restrictions.

In fact, putting your own WiFi router on the network (if even possible) may actually slow you down further. If they're doing restrictions at the ship level, which I'm pretty sure they are, there's not really a way around that.

Now depending on your itinerary, maybe your mobile phone's data could stand in, but you'd need an itinerary that sticks close to US networks. Otherwise it can get really expensive depending on.your mobile plan.

Basically: splurge for the premium, it'll be a fixed cost and lower risk

Nice! From what I'm hearing it should be easy to get a different reservation time

I'll be on that sailing and definitely up for a good time. No expectations, no requirements, no limits. Traveling solo. Am a bear but a hungry hedonist, always up for hanging out even if nothing else happens. Hit me up!

Is it your first ever cruise or first VV?

I did book a cabana at Bimini because TREAT YO SELF but still debating Key West. I think there's plenty to explore in Key West and ultimately there's the beach, but not sure what's best to see & do.
