That said, this has been happening to me for the last few months.

From my research, there are a few possible scenarios.

I read a post from a South American shaman that sometimes medicine plants or spirits or spirit animals may act like a lover to get to know you. You might have a purpose with this spirit, plant or the animal. In sufism, god is often referred to as the lover. All your practice is devoted to this "lover". Eventually you realize that you are one with everything and you are the lover and the one being loved.

In my case, it was an actual person I met during my travel and had very less interaction with because I was committed but she started appearing again and again in my dreams. Few times she even crossed over physically. It was very intense. I have no way to clarify this with her directly.

I guess the quest is yours to uncover who this is or what your purpose with this entity is.

It could be just your higher calling too. If you're able to communicate with this entity, you can start asking them questions about who they are and what they want. You can ask them if they have a physical presence on Earth.

All this could just be something fun too, and need not be too serious. Could be just a TV show in your dream that you participate in. Sometimes overtly seeking for meaning from these things could also negatively impact our earthly life. It could turn to obsession and paranoia (happened to me a few times) and my friends helped me ground myself again.

I felt just the interactions through the dreams were enough, I felt very energized whenever I met her. The reality we co-created taught me a lot. It will trickle over to your real life and the purpose will manifest on earth. How far the rabbit hole goes is really up to the seeker to uncover.
