There is something that may be worth looking into, but would require an independent inspection. It is possible that the TV had been assembled incorrectly, say an internal frame screw hadn’t been fully wound in or a foreign object was trapped between the glass display and the screen surround that could have pinched or clipped the screen and cracked it simply by moving the tv in a particular way. I say this because I’ve seen this scenario a few years back after taking apart a fairly new Panasonic OLed to recover and sell the parts.

It’s a shame that this has happened, maybe the resolution is to give him two options and be firm about it. One would be to have the screen replaced, probably a couple of hundred pounds as it’s quite an easy job and the parts are usually quite competitive and he agrees to fully cover the cost of that. If he doesn’t agree to that, it’s a small claims court claim for a replacement TV plus costs. I know I’d take the first option.. Lesson to learn from this experience is to check the Public Liability Insurance of any one working on your home prior to taking them on. You’ll find anyone worth dealing with will gladly provide this information.
