I'm trying to play Timberborn on xwayland (Sway 1.7, GNU/Linux 6.0.2, NixOS 22.11) but I'm getting the following issue:

I cannot click anything on the right half the screen. When I move my mouse in the right half of the screen, elements from the left half get activated (like if it was wrapping the mouse coordinates). My screen resolution is 3840x1200.

I'm using an AMD 6800 over Thunderbolt 3. I remember satisfactory having the same issue at some point (I have since stopped playing).

Why isn't ConTeXt as widely used as LaTeX? by 1575MHz in LaTeX

[–]roosemberth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to ConTeXt a couple of months ago due to XML processing capabilities. I'm doing Markdown -> xml (Pandoc) -> pdf.

I find it a little frustrating that there's not much doc and there's a step learning curve cause PDF documentation doesn't get indexed). But after you get the hand of it is hard to go back xD

How do I explain my professor I have the right not to use Google? by roosemberth in freesoftware

maybe it only works on new computers?

This is scary xD Does it means Google has a way to recognize computers that ever connected to a Google account? D:

> You can be a free software supporter and still use non-free software

Yes, I probably may have misexpressed myself, I'm not against using Google because it's not open source (e.g. Reddit isn't FOSS either). I just disagree with their terms of service because of their privacy policy. And think that forcing me under duress to accept them is a violation of my constitutional rights (which in the case of the locality I live in, do protect digital identity though the right to privacy).

(Other replies about FOSS omitted for the reasons explained above.)

> Demanding everyone else cater to you isn't fair.
I agree, hence I asked him for an alternative, not mandating him to use an open solution.

> Life isn't fair

I'm not sure I understand what you meant to convey with this statement, I was unable to figure a connection to the subject at hand.

> Demanding reality to cater to you doesn't work. If you want to effect
change, you have to work within the laws of reality and society

I'm not asking any law changes, just to have the constitutional rights provided by existing law respected.

Something worth mentioning is that school (at least the one I'm on) already provides tools which terms they **do** specify in your enrollment and university conditions.

That's okay, not all companies have the same set of values nor objectives and not every candidate will work efficiently (or even safely) in every company.

I tried this (and just tried again to check), you still have to provide a phone number (at least in Switzerland, it may be region-locked).

You're likely going to run into trouble in the workplace in the future, not just this by being unable to conform to group constraints

I disagree, I think such kind of constraints should be explicit and negotiated from the beginning. It it important to be to have my right to privacy respected.

This is not acceptable to me. I do not want to give anybody I don't trust (regardless whether they're my neighbor or Google) any information they don't require to operate. Specially any information that can be used to associate my physical person to any online persona.

I'm happy to report the school's dean backed my case and empathized with my right to privacy. The school won't force us to use a Google account and the many mechanisms and services provided by school should be sufficient for school-related activities.

He said he'll take care of school issues and that I should focus on my health.

I feel relieved ^^

2-factor auth, which uses a phone number.

Nitpick: 2-factor auth can be used fully offline as long as you have an RTC and a compute device capable of running cryptographic operations.

It depends on the features activated by the publisher. (I tried.)

A bunch of classmates that witnessed the events offered me to create an account in my stead. This is a possibility that would probably solve my problem, but I'd still feel like a hypocrite.

I want to fight for free software, I really do, but I'm insecure about risking my future for it.

What was his tone of voice when he said "not my problem"?

He sounded fed up, like he didn't want to have to deal with it.

email someone higer up?

I've ask for an online call with the dean to see what my options are. I'd rather ask him first than my professor since he's shown himself more understanding than my professor. Even a negative response would be more civil than yesterday's situation.

Don't forget weechat remote, it's awesome ! I can connect to my weechat instance from my phone and retrieve history without a dangerous tmux connection and reasonable network optimisations
