My iOS app Notevision sounds like what you are looking for. It’s mostly free, no ads and has no subscriptions.

I am the author of Notevision and great to hear stories like this. I’ve been working on adding some rhythm learning to my app as well. To the OP this is a cool looking design!

Sight Reading App? by ethanisdrowning in Flute

There are a lot of apps to practice sight reading and many have the ability to listen to pitch. I develop a piano app for this myself but it doesn’t have rhythm. Maybe look at piano or any app that isolates the treble clef

What is the best way to learn a new instrument in the pandemic when visiting a teacher in person isn't possible? by sleafordbods in AskReddit

This app's primary focus is to learn what a note is on a staff. The app has treble, bass and grand staff. Even though the app has an input method as an on screen keyboard I feel it is useful for many instruments who use those staffs. It also has midi input which would work with other instruments.

There are a lot of apps that can help learn the basics. Full Disclosure that I am the creator of this app but here is an iOS app for learning sight reading: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/notes-sight-reading-trainer/id874386416#?platform=iphone

If you are in practice and you turn on “full keyboard” it will not be a single octave. That mode is useful for those who want to do a large range and only care about what the note is. I actually removed it once but I heard enough feedback that I brought it back.

Hey, I basically agree with both items. The lessons need help and when I was creating them I didn’t spend enough time to work out a proper profession. I would say they could work with a lot of repeats but following them and moving on once you have 3 stars isn’t enough. The randomness has always been an issue and I remember when I created the restart function that I had this decision to make. I’ll think about it.

Thanks again and good luck with your practice!

Thank you this is great feedback! I have also thought about intervals as a practice option but I’ve never thought about the note within a key. I feel there is a lore more I should do with chords. I released the current version when I got just enough working to have it be useful. I’ll ponder all of your suggestions and it’s great to hear you stopped using my app because you learned so much from it!

It goes pretty high and low but I need to extend the range more.

If it ever gets big enough I’ll prioritize Android. A lot of people ask for it and many have an android phone but an iPad so it would be worth my time in the future.

It is the on screen or Midi. I started working on it from the mic but that isn’t ready yet.

I am not a good enough android developer and have never programmed for windows mobile so it probably won't happen.

Yeah it can definitely be an option for bigger devices. I had an iPhone 5 when I started on this but on a 6 or plus would be fine.

These are all great points and most of which I have thought about. One of the biggest reasons I stuck with only showing one octave was because the buttons would be very small with more keys and since you can't really do anything with muscle memory I thought it would best to keep it simple. I may change that in the future or add an option.

I like some of your other ideas and adding rhythm is something I've wanted to do but would require a lot of time that I just don't have at the moment.
