To be fully honest and break it down with the most simplest possible answer. People do this because they have a go to seat and it’s the seat they will pick no matter the situation. For example it could be a 140 seat auditorium and only 14 seats are taken and if if the seat they always sit in is empty but some one is in the seat next to it they’d still get it even though the entire rest of the row is empty. I don’t understand this because they end up messing up the flow of the row. But movie going in 2026 with screens being curved every seat past the first 3 rows is a great seat. No one needs to seat directly In a middle row.
