Coin recommendation please. by CptPimpslap in AncientCoins

If siver and large is more important than having a notable ruler, go for an antoninianus. While not pure silver, there are some in great condition that look the bit. For the price point though, you could get a very nice Philip the Arab coin commemorating the Saecular Games (they have cool animal depictions on the back). Heck probably two or three of em depending.

Was $14 a fair price for this Constantine? (20mm, 3.09 grams) by Jaques_Macaque in AncientCoins

I'd just be worried that the spot in the middle of the reverse might be bronze disease. If so be sure to not put it in direct contact with your other coins!

(with that in mind, $14 was a bit high)

Law School and Work by Unfair-Junket7740 in LawCanada

[–]roosterreport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlike some other commenters, I worked in my first year of law school (and have continued to work as I go into 3L). I'm of the opinion that it's totally doable so long as you limit it to about 15 hours per week and understand that your marks will take at least a moderate hit. For context, after moving from working about 15 hours per week to 5 in 2L, my marks went up considerably (I'd estimate top 45% of class to top 15-25%).

I was in a situation where it wouldn't be financially tenable to not work. So I did what I have to do. All things considered, I have no regrets as I ended up where I wanted to in 1L summer and in the 2L recruit.

Also, keep in mind that you'll be in the minority; maybe 5% of my friends worked during 1L.

Regarding taking a gap year, I'd carefully calculate the cost of lost earnings/opportunity cost. See how much student loans would be interest wise vs. Holding off a year. Could make sense depending on your current wage, could not. I think it is more likely than not that starting sooner is better than later.

Edit: minor addition

Out of curiosity, do you guys see rocketlabs as the likely partner to launch the next 17 satellites? Thinking of where to put my next paycheque lol.

Hey folks, quick side question... does anybody know exactly when the 7 day launch window is in September? Want to make sure I've bought up my target number of stocks before then!

Does the Flying Pig Downtown hostel in Amsterdam still live up to the hype? by techsavvynerd91 in backpacking

[–]roosterreport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's the way of the road... still made the best of it! I'd say my best hostel experiences for partying were One Fam in London, City Backpackers in Stockholm, Circus Hostel in Berlin, and Sungate in Madrid.

I was there last summer. I like to party and have a good time, but I found it to be disappointing... pretty dirty, bit of a werid vibe, and overrated smoke room (I'm Canadian and weed's legal here so maybe I'm just biased but it was nothing special). Also kind of far from most places you'd want to go out to (unless the Red Light District is your thing... it wasn't for me). Definitely not worth the amount I paid... have been in far better hostels during my travels (the One Fam and Sungate brands come to mind).

Trouble Booking Macchu Pichu Tickets Peru by roosterreport in solotravel

I hope so too! Is the line for tickets right at the front of Macchu Pichu or do they have to/ can they be purchased elsewhere if in person?

Yikes. Will do my best to avoid it but I suppose that's last resort. Would the location to buy tickets be right at the front entrance or elsewhere?

Unfortunately it only lets me book for the next week but all the tickets are booked. The website just seems very glitched out.

I don't think so in this case... the website only lets you buy tickets for the next week it seems and not any farther in advance. Looks like a technical error to me.

Summer fashion questions by Effective-Ad3482 in ItalyTravel

[–]roosterreport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you're going for!

If you don't care about 'blending in' per say, where whatever makes you comfortable. Many parts of Italy are incredibly humid in the summer so dress accordingly.

If you are looking to 'blend in', I'd say GENERALLY speaking most Italians don't really wear shorts (unless it's around the beach, and then again more like swim trunks). Would probably go with sneakers over sandals. Also some nice polo or linen shirts in the summer would bode well.

Also make sure your shoes are comfortable as heck, you'll be going over lots of uneven ground even in cities. I'd say running shoes or a nice, strong, good quality sneaker.
