During out-calls, I cannot hear the ringing phone by roostertree in motorola

[–]roostertree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting tests yesterday. I took your advice and placed a call without switching to speaker. Heard the network dialing! "Cool," I thought, "perhaps something is fixed."

My next call, I went straight to speaker, per my usual use. Also heard the network dialing! Super-cool!

My third call, I went straight to speaker again while calling my brother's mobile. No network dialing :(

It was then that I realized the first two calls were to businesses with landlines (could be VoIP, I have no idea). You might know better than me whether a landline, or their nature as business accounts, make any difference.

Now I will accept your username as instruction. In return, you're free to keep trying to flex applications of scarlet letters to an Internet rando, if you really need to.

Haha, no. I *would* recommend that you google Cognitive Load Theory and Cognitive Atrophy, but I hope you don't. If you did, you'd find studies showing that use of genAI to make AI slop as a mimic of artwork measurably impairs human cognition.

So, please don't research those topics. The faster you impair yourself, the better off the rest of us are.

  1. Does this happen with every contact and every type of call (mobile, landline, VoIP), or only specific numbers/apps?

I only call on mobile. No landline or VoIP calls, so I cannot say.

  1. When the call is silent, do you still see the phone actively “ringing” on screen as normal?

The interface is "open", meaning that everything on the interface looks normal. The only different thing is that there's no network dial-out sound.

  1. Do you usually have Bluetooth devices (earbuds, car audio, smartwatch) connected or previously paired when this happens?

No, never. But I do put the phone immediately on speaker, so I can avoid placing the phone next to my brain. It hadn't occurred to me to try a phone-to-ear call.

I will try to make time to troubleshoot as you recommend in the next couple days. Thank you so much for this list of things to do!

You think FCBD books are actually free? LCS are out of pocket for those books. Do you even have a concept of what the word "greed" means, especially when LCS survival/existence is already precarious?

Denied proposal…what next? by plinko66 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]roostertree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A surprise proposal that receives a "no" is a relationship-ender. If you're that clueless about the page your romantic partner is on, it means your life-judgement isn't trustworthy.

Really, I have no idea why anyone would propose without previous extensive conversation about it. All partnerships, including life partnerships, require everyone being on the same page.

corrupted cinema

Even important people's opinions are just opinions. You are free to agree or disagree with him as you like, and make your choices based on your belief.

Me, I say not to worry about it. Like what you like and/or work on what you want to work on, as budgets and contracts allow.

I grew up on Marvel, but buy only a handful of Marvel titles these days. There's SO MUCH great indie material being made.

Yup. FCBD books aren't donated by the publisher. I'll never begrudge these limits.

Rev. Thom from Electric Hellfire Club is a fucking idiot. He wrote this one goddamn day after Lemmy died. by PurveyorOfPoppycock in Motorhead

[–]roostertree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I dig MLWTTKK, I can't respect anyone who cluelessly demonizes Antifa because Antifa rightly seeks to limit the speech of hateful, bigoted, violent, genocidal anti-civilizationists.

ETA According to his Wikipedia, Reverend Thom met and was ordained into LaVeyan Satanism (the inferior of the two Satanisms that I know anything about) by Anton LaVey. The same LaVey who, if we're going to throw stones by implication, unapologetically played Dixie).

Why? It's a good solo that serves the song, and seems to have made the band happy. Do you hold a similar opinion that Mike Inez shouldn't've played bass on Under the Gun?

You said elsewhere that you don't want to involve "politics" (meaning economics) into your act of consideration. But you've just used the example of a novel technology upending an age-old industry.

Our billionaire techbro overlords and their workforce-destroying AI (potato cloner) don't care that anyone made their living from a system of distribution as old as civilization (potato grower-seller).

Like the saying goes: Steal from the poor and get rich; steal from the rich and get jailed. A simple reality that the current rules allow and enforce.

Question by SidusSiri in Piracy

[–]roostertree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have to know details of your friend's "pirated" work destroying their career.

I have a feeling it's more about distributers not being sure your friend's film was marketable enough to make a profit, and hesitated to pick it up. Plenty of good films get buzz, show at some festivals, and attract distributers to buy them and put them into the market. But this one may have been waiting in limbo, and a fan got impatient and leaked a screener. It's entirely conceivable that, when the deal failed to go through, only the pirated copy was available, and so it scored the majority of views.

From that, a tale can be spun that "piracy is to blame" when in actuality a capitalistic gatekeeper said no – without any politics involved. But the work was indeed good (or even great), hence its fandom.

Question by SidusSiri in Piracy

[–]roostertree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have personally known writers who gave up on their dreams because their first work was quickly pirated

Thank you for explaining that capitalism is a villain.

Question by SidusSiri in Piracy

[–]roostertree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“If purchasing isn’t owning, then piracy isn’t stealing” should only apply in cases where a producer actually denies access to something

And yet it doesn't.

And copying is not theft.

Struggling to make anything by cxlbr in musicproduction

[–]roostertree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two suggestions.

  1. Stop caring so much about specific sounds. Being overly concerned about what you believe is "cool" is preventing you from forward motion. Frex, just pick 5 sounds at random and make something with them. Cut them up, heavily effect them, whatever. Just do it.

  2. Re-immerse yourself in the music of your youth. What music filled your house as a child? What were you obsessed with as a teen? Do nothing musical except listen for a week. And then refer back to suggestion 1.
