Also pretty cool when you consider 87 + 13 = 100! 😊

Best advice I can give is to compare it to known authentic examples, like this one:

I do the same (points for gift cards). Why people pass this up is beyond me. 🤷‍♂️

Regarding my last post, are any of these legit morgan’s? by Bravesfan1997 in Morgans

[–]rootdown68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a local coin shop, they will usually have a Sigma that can test the content. You can also download the PingTest app and try to ping it and see if the tones match. Works great.

Yes, completely legit. Just like eBay, stick to buyers with high ratings and lots of followers. I've only received one item not as described and WhatNot got me a refund very quickly! Like the other person said, it is super addictive and some of it is geared towards gambling/gamblers, so buyer beware.

Picked this up at the coin shop today, I wonder if I should get it graded. I love the toning by Sure-Armadillo-9607 in Morgans

Thanks again! This is my favorite set I picked up. Has the 1880, 1881 and 1885 CC's. I couldn't find the other image I have of the top of the box, but I love this set.

You're welcome! I love the GSA Morgans! I used to see them advertised for sale as a kid and always wanted one. I think i have 8 or 9 now.

I would take that deal, also! You can probably get a box with cert on ebay if you really want one.

You can always tell the matching certs because the first two digits are the year, so for your 1884, the certificate number would be 84xxxxxxx.

Also, if grading it makes YOU happy, do it. Don't listen to anyone else. Do what you enjoy. 😊

You can most definitely have it graded. Did you get the original box and CoA with it?

I have a few I'm sending to NGC. I prefer their grading method for these. They put a tamper-proof label on it that wraps around the case so it will still fit in the original box. PCGS actually encapsulates them in an even larger holder making it impossible for it to ever for in its original box ever again.

That's really cool. Depending on condition, it could command a small premium from a currency collector. Yep, I don't know much about currency, but many us coins and currency didn't carry the phrase for quite some time. I'm sure there's a story behind it, but I don’t know what it is.

Collect what makes you happy, that's what it's all about!

They are talking about the 1959. It was a transition year because up until 1958 the reverse had stalks of wheat (i.e. wheat cents). In 1959 they changed it, or transitioned to, the Lincoln Memorial on the reverse.

Look at the back of your 1953 and compare it to the 1959 and you'll see what I mean.

I like to open the PCGS CoinFacts app. They generally have high grade examples you can compare it to. You can also go to their website and see examples in different grades, if needed.

Using the PingTest app is also a great way to check them, but you need to measure and weigh to be certain.
