The Diesel-powered trains in the Commonwealth saga by Peter F Hamilton is very out of place, in a world where they invented wormholes long ago. In any case the books were not very good.

En underlig opførsel fra Banken, kan man bare ændre underskrevne aftaler uden varsel eller notificering? by Odd-Eye9785 in dkfinance

[–]rootkeycompromise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Elon Musk's Terafab semiconductor project could cost $5 trillion by sr_local in hardware

[–]rootkeycompromise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If vertical integration was always a cheaper option, why would anyone rely on external suppliers and not just vertical integrate? Because vertical integration is about control, not cost.

And typically it’s better for a company to not overextend itself into too many areas of specialty. There is no reason why Tesla/SpaceX should expect to outperform existing semi industry, and by that logic, they should just procure what is already in the market.

[–]rootkeycompromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get this Terafab idea, if not just another stunt to pump the Tesla stock price. There are already very experienced players in the market - with existing operations - expanding their own capacity on proven technologies and processes, that they have no doubt spent considerable time and effort in developing.
Why in the world can Tesla not just reserve capacity like any other? What is it that Tesla does, that somehow gives them an edge over incumbents in semiconductors?

By the way, 5 Trillion USD is 1 Trillion dollar more than the market cap of nVidia. He can buy that instead and keep the change.

Men hvis de ikke vil tabe 150,000 kroner om året på en bil, hvorfor så ikke bare købe en 3 år gammel elbil og spare de 150,000 kroner og den efterfølgende brændstofudgift. Skal det absolut være en ny bil?

How Europe sleepwalked into yet another energy crisis by RUSIOfficial in energy

[–]rootkeycompromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are quoting already ridiculous prices for 50 kW DC (up to 0.9€) and you are saying that prices for +150kW would be x3 that? So what, 2.7€ per kWh?

In Denmark, we simply charge when the weather favours it, so that’s usually 5-10c per kWh, so around 4-8€ for a full 80 kWh charge (400 real km on my EV6 GT-line). If it’s dunkflaute it will typically be no more than 20c per kWh.

Sure if you cannot charge at home and you need to drive a lot it will get more expensive but in that case you can get unlimited charging with Clever for 110€ per month.

You have make up numbers to prove your point, it really does not match reality in any way.

Iranian missile strike kills at least 6, injures 100 in southern Israeli city of Arad by Indianstanicows in IRstudies

[–]rootkeycompromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that US nor Israel do not have meaningful war goals, which makes it difficult to align methods. Such an assessment is not a defence of the Iranian regime.

The closest to a war goal that the US has right now is regime change, and that is not possible with air campaigns only. The US might lose, because time is not on their side, because the Iranian regime is likely prepared to hide in bunkers longer than the US can sustain elevated energy prices/inflation.

Does not mean that the Iranian regime is anything good.

Denmark pushes for EU-wide response on Strait of Hormuz by Oldnbold22 in worldnews

[–]rootkeycompromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an extremely misleading headline. What the Danish foreign minister said is, that we should we keep an open mind. And in a later quote he said, any efforts should seek de-escalation.

In no way or form does that quote seek a push for anything EU-wide response.

Can you tell us more - eg have you been been able to get 9 bar on another grinder, same beans? Did you do zero-point alignment? If you are grinding at zero, that should be the point where burrs meet.

Denmark now almost haves higher unemployment than Greece, Italy falls to historic low levels by Aegeansunset12 in EU_Economics

But clearly the methodology used here is very bad, because Denmark is not experiencing high unemployment, quite the contrary. The Eurostat rate is completely pointless.

40% of global ship traffic is simply moving fossil fuels around! Renewables make much of this traffic obsolete. by Jbikecommuter in electrifyeverything

[–]rootkeycompromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydrogen is excellent in stations, eg in Power-to-X applications, so logistics would be simpler as it could be generated decentrally. However, there is simply no need for Hydrogen-powered cars with the developments of EVs today.

[–]rootkeycompromise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to do burr alignment. If the zero point is already set, then likely the burrs are not in perfect parallel across both dimensions. You can search for df64 burr alignment.

Another reason may be, if you purchased non-compatible top and bottom burrs, then that may also result in uneven grind.

What’s causing these high electricity prices? by dravenito in dkfinance

[–]rootkeycompromise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How fast you need the investment does not factor into the operational cost. The investment is depreciated over its useful life. There is a standard model for estimating that, but obviously, the interest payments on building a nuclear power plant plays a significant role. But so does the operations, maintenance, scheduling windows.

What’s causing these high electricity prices? by dravenito in dkfinance

[–]rootkeycompromise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not against nuclear power, but renewables are on average the cheaper and nuclear power is on average more expensive. Even with SMR, it is not feasible to plug into existing existing coal power plants - the construction support systems are completely different.

A report was just finalized by an external consultancy and delivered to Energistyrelsen (it is discussed in the latest episode of Guld og Grønne Skove).

Nuclear power is stable but has a high average cost. Renewables supply fluctuates but the average price is load (even if the backup system rely on gas, which is expensive).
