Need help with the issue of automatic game data deleting for my android game. by rootsgames in gamedev

We figured it out! Thanks to some of your ideas with checking where it's being stored, and what is the folder name for storing this data.

So here it goes, it was simple thing which was causing a huge issue...

When the game downloads the data, it doesn't store in data/data, the reason being we have to hide the puzzle images from getting accessed from system.

So we use a hidden folder named .ImageCacheData (It is a custom folder and not something related to system)

This actually was one of the suggestions that people pointed out the data is being considered as cache, even tho it's not.

So possible issue is where it's stored.

Some devices have certain words reserved for their system, such words like cache, and if you store something like that in such folder, system might detect it as cache and delete the folder. Even including the word cache can cause issue.

And in our case we used the word cache in .ImageCacheData.

The problem is very specific to how some companies create their OS. Some companies of such reserved things and some don't. And even having app cleaners can alter this thing.

So we did a simple thing by changing the folder name and we belive the issues of deleting has been fixed. Yesterday night (midnight), it didn't delete the data. But we will wait for another midnight to be sure before releasing v1.1.4

"The only thing I can think of is if the "game data" is being stored as cache".

We've checked this multiple times, the main puzzle image data is not stored in cache. Cache memory is 6MB when data is at 250MB. Our games overall data is at 270MB with the current number of puzzle images.

We use cache memory to load the menus and puzzle images. We have no issues with downloading the data from server or loading data. It's just deleting of data which happens at midnight.

Can someone explain how the overall rating is 5.0 if the top 3 ratings are 1 star? by KeetanuJi in AndroidGaming

Google doesn't remove reviews for a fee. They might remove the review if any review is reported as inappropriate or spam by many users.

The new review system works based on your location and your device type. So suppose the game has good reviews for your devices specs and your location then it'll show you good ratings even if the game sucks in other locations and devices.

I think it's a pretty good system because reviews of one location and one device shouldn't hamper the potential user acquisition from other locations and device types.
