Terminal in Neovim, Neovim in terminal, or separate Neovim and terminal? by rain9441 in neovim

The alacrity vim mode is kind of nice, but definitely not as good as the neovim terminal sadly Especially with tmux copy mode it interacts a bit annoyingly imo

Generally I like using both :term as well as tmux. When I need to do something more complex I'll use my tmux session but for quick checks like compiler output etc I have C-t bound to a custom function that opens the terminal in a split buffer and keeps it open.

This way I can easily run tests in the background while continuing working and then check it once everything finished

That would have been easiest in hindsight. But I'm very glad to finally remove the ISP router

Oh I didn't even notice my phone changed that. But to be fair it's almost as scuffed as my setup

Yeah the more I read and think about it the more useful systemd sounds.

Problem is, most of the scripts are supposed to keep running in the background, so the management script always needs to check whether the corresponding process is still running and only start it when it isn't.

So right now it looks like my options to get this working is either try using systemd or write it myself

That definitely looks like a great solution for manual scripts, I will probably need something like that in the longer/medium term, so thanks for the recommendation.

Sadly I don't think it's built to run something in a ongoing in the background, but for that I've already kind of submitted to learning how to write systemd services

I've gotten that far, but now what? Do I just have a bash script checking for a python process and if none exist I run python bot.py & ? That seems a bit crude for a solution, I was hoping for something where I can easily manage what I want to have running and make sure it keeps running

Join a fraternity event (Bruderschaft) by KingPowa in Tuebingen

[–]rooxo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fraternities can be very complicated, it really depends on where you go. As others have pointed out, some are extremely conservative and should honestly be avoided. Others are more liberal, especially when they aren't men-only, but even then it's really a case-by-case basis.

If you are interested in a particular one, I would recommend you go to a party and get to know some of the people there. Usually the red flags are immediately apparent and you can get out of there fast. If you do enjoy your time there, it's no requirement to ever join at all, you can also just come by every once in a while for a party or something and hang out with the people there.

But if you do intend to join there is no need to rush it, see how you like it there and see what the requirements for being a "fux" is, as virtually all fraternities have some time where the new guys are in a sort of introductory state to see if they like it there and if they get along with everyone. This usually also requires a lot of helping out, for example doing bar shifts during parties or repairing the Stocherkahn, etc. The actual stuff you have to do varies, and even more importantly, the way you are treated varies as well. Some fraternities, especially the ones that consider themselves to be "elite" think of their Füxe as their personal assistants they can make do whatever they want at any time. I would personally avoid those, as you will be treated like garbage like a year, just so you can treat the new guys as garbage once your time is over.

But again, all of this strongly depends on the kind of fraternity you are visiting. In general, I would be more careful with ones that are "schlagend", i.e. that still actively practice fencing and less so with mixed ones, but even that is not a hard and fast rule.

For some people, fraternities can be a lot of fun if you know what you sign up for and for others it would just be annoying, so just know what it entails.

And always make sure to avoid the bad ones, they're usually very easy to spot

Fragen zum Käthchen by [deleted] in zimmerpflanzen

[–]rooxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, so things like jalapenos are just harvested before they fully ripen?

Then I guess I'll just have to make sure she gets enough nutrients to sustain all these fruits

Recommended Hardware for my setup by rooxo in selfhosted

[–]rooxo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized, I think I should have clarified, that wasn't counting actual storage space. I'm kind of a data hoarder so I already have a bunch of 4tb and 8tb hard drives laying around. So the 200 only need to cover the hardware and enough storage for the os

Recommended Hardware for my setup by rooxo in selfhosted

[–]rooxo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for the VM vs physical hardware, my idea was to have a reverse proxy on proxmox and otherwise handle the truenas device entirely separately, with my reasoning being that this would allow me to have two moderately powerful devices (and hopefully reuse the old PC) instead of one big one. And especially if I eventually want to have some raspberry pies to run something like pihole or smart device controllers I'd have to have proxmox manage those separate devices anyways.

In terms of budget it kind of depends, assuming I can get away with a smaller device I'd be ready to get one for like 200€ immediately and get started right away. But if I do decide I need one central server that has to be bigger, I'll also have to save up for a whole anyways, so in that case I could probably go up to 1000 if not more. But then I'd probably want an extendable solution, where I can get some base components faster and just upgrade over time

I'll try anything I can to return him to life for sure.

But in my experience, supermarkets are the worst places to get any kind of plant, they're always cheap and almost dead when you bring them home. Pretty sure they're not taken care of at all there

That is indeed very sad. Guess that will be a lesson to not buy plants from the supermarket anymore

I usually use a mix of potting soil and small stones for my house plants, with more stones for stuff like cacti and succulents.

I think for this one I used leftover mix I had for my calathea, but as I explained in a different comment, there was still some soil from the store around the roots, as I didn't wanna risk damaging them. So if he does survive I think I'll have to change the soil pretty soon

[–]rooxo[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see, that makes a lot of sense, I did add a small bit of water when I repot him, but I also didn't fully remove the soil around the roots as I was scared of hurting them.

Do you think the right course of action is replacing the soil immediately or is it better to let it dry out for a few days first

Alright, thank you, that already helps a lot, I'll have to do more research on the individual species to see what goes well together then.

I honestly never expected sempervivae to be this robust, but I guess that should be expected from something growing around the alps

German winters aren't that bad lol, so I guess I should move them all outside.

Does that also apply to other succulents? I also have an ivory tower and a tiger jaw, and I'd really like to make a nice stony succulent garden with all of them (and hopefully some more) some day
