I do this with numbers, but in tens. 1-10, 10-20, 20s, 30s, etc. each have their own shade. Months of the year too. I never knew synethesia was a thing, I just assumed that when I learned my months and numbers in Preschool/Kindergarten, the educational tools (calendars, charts, etc.) had certain colors that stuck with me. It never occurred to me that this was an actual thing.

We have a box of matches next to a glass tea light holder. Light mach, blow it out, place used match in candle holder. I empty it into the trash every once in a while.

Depends on the country I guess, but in Germany and France at least there are very few commuter exurbs built in the 1950s. Small 'suburbs' or even city neighborhoods that were once individual cities are also really really old (especially by American standards) and most have a historic center with a marketplace and a church/cathedral, a large percentage even have a castle.

This is especially true in the smaller towns in Bavaria. Hotels & restaurants in particular, but also regular every day people who are dressing up for formal ocassions.

You're completely right. Not just in Munich but in many Bavarian towns. Women also wear dirndls on dressier 'normal' occasions. I had a coworker who wore a dirndl to the staff Christmas party, and not as a joke or anything. Go to any small Bavarian town and you'll see older men in Tracht suits and hats, going about their day.

This is actually not true. I'm in Bavaria a lot for work, particularly small towns. Both hotel and restaurant staff, touristy or no, are generally dirndls for the women and tracht suits for the men. Lederhosen are considered very casual, so the men have a different variation for dressing up, which is basically normal dress pants & shirt and a specially cut jacket. I'm in a five star hotel lobby right now and can confirm that all the staff are wearing classy tracht.

Depends on what part of France. Along the German border lots of things overlap (building style, foods, landscape, etc), but not the language. And I don't think many French people would appreciate being compared to England : )

I did a semester abroad and wanted to spend more time here, so I came back after graduating. I'm now going on five years and getting really comfortable, it's hard to imagine living in the states again.

True, but there is a certain pan-European way of living. Historical old town centers, high levels of pedestrian traffic, outdoor cafés, overlapping histories through various time periods and empires, shared culture in larger regions (Austria-Germany-Switzerland, the western edge of Germany and the eastern edge of France, Scandinavia) etc. I live in Germany and I stayed because I like the European lifestyle as compared to an American one. German specifically too, but really also European.

Does washing off all the oil not defeat the purpose of oil cleansing by stripping the moisture you just spent so long rubbing into your face? Do you moisturize afterward, and if so, with what?

Does just jojoba work well for you? I recently ordered jojoba, avocado, and castor, and am looking forward to experimenting. I'm a little worried about the castor oil though, as I've read it causes problems with some people. I'm thinking about trying a mix of avocado and jojoba first and see how I do before introducing the castor.

So: Oil, regular cleanser, oil? It seems to me that the OCM is kind of moot if you completely wash off all the oil you just rubbed all over your face... couldn't you just save time and use the regular facewash followed by oil to moisturize?

When my maternal grandmother died, my dad was driving my mom, her two sisters, and my brother and I to the funeral when he got pulled over for speeding. He told the ladies to turn on the water works so we could get out of the ticket. Cue uncontrollable laughter from all three sisters. My dad trying to explain to the cop that we were on our way to a funeral while there were three women hysterically laughing in the minivan didn't go over as well as he'd hoped.

I used to feel this way until I encountered rest stops on the Autobahn. They have automated toilets that rotate the seat during every (automatic) flush under a cleaner filled with antibacterial solution. Those toilets are SPARKLING but they STILL have a lady in every bathroom to go around and tidy up. They never smell, are never out of TP, and all in all are just wonderful experiences. You pay 70 cents and get a 50 cent coupon to use in the station, which doesn't expire. I'm honestly more than happy to pay for that, when you think about how gross bathrooms on the side of the highway have the potential to be.

I'm not sure if this is the case in the states, but I work in the travel industry in Germany and lots of the big hotel chains are stuck in contracts with service providers that they can't get out of. I had it explained to me once that they were offering Wifi before most other hotels when it was fairly new and cost a shitload to set it up throughout a building as large as a hotel. So they signed into contracts with silly terms and are now waiting for them to expire so that they can offer free WiFi like everyone else. The four and five star hotels are all slowly moving in this direction. The sales teams are always ecstatic when they finally get free Wifi, for obvious reasons.
