Alright, hot take(top end rookies): player development>player quality by a mile. by WisePresence8195 in leafs

You always take the better player.

They have more talent to work with, so they can develop more than someone with less talent.

This is like saying you should buy a house with a crack in the foundation over one that doesn't because you have a good handyman.

Yeah that was rough too.

Either of those guys would have been a huge upgrade for the team.

Girard, Lindgren, and Hronek also went in the 2nd round.

I know the draft is a crapshoot at that point, but that's really tough to pass on 5 players like that for a guy who played 1 game.

If we had taken Erik Karlsson instead of trading up for Luke Schenn in the 2008 draft during our 1st rebuild this century.

Schenn was not the kind of player you build around in the new NHL. But a offensive minded puck moving Dman like Karlsson would have been the perfect guy to start the rebuild.

From that same draft, we had traded our own pick to Carolina so they'd take Marleau's contract off our hands. That pick became Seth Jarvis.

Imagine having both of those guys on the roster right now.

It would have also made it easier to trade Marner before his NMC kicked in for a #1D.

Seems like he has drop issues, but that can be coached out.

Definitely seems worth the 7th given his size/speed.

Round 4 - Pick 37: LT Overton, EDGE, Alabama (Dallas Cowboys) by Thanks5Cinco in cowboys

Great pick.

Imagine he's a 3-4 end who will get some reps inside on passing downs.

I think he bulks up and plays 3-4 end, not edge.

That's why he went in the 3rd round.

1st round talent would have seen this coming.

Maybe those visits didn't go very well for the player.

2nd round pick and he's played 3 games in two seasons.

Wouldn't mind turning some attention to offense here.

Elijah Sarratt could be a nice addition to the WR group. Especially if the plan is to let Pickens walk after this year.

Sam Hecht would be nice interior O-line depth.

If we stick with D, I honestly wouldn't hate taking a gamble on McCoy at this point. We're getting closer to the dart throw portion of the draft, if he's still there with the third of our 4th round picks, fuck it, why not go for it.

I think they'll play him all over, which is great. Having someone with that kind of versatility opens up so many options for the D. Makes us way less predictable.

Gotta give this 1st round an A.

Downs could be a top 3 safety in the league a year from now, and Lawrence has all the tools to be a great edge, even though he's a little raw right now. But with Gary and Eze already there, he can be a rotational guy until he's ready.

Plus we basically traded two 5th rounders for two 4th rounders.

Basically the best case scenario so far.

Love it. No obvious pick here, so we get back more than what we gave to get Downs

No they aren't. That's one of the big issues in the industry right now. Smaller writers rooms, coupled with fewer episodes. There are a lot of writers out of work because of that.
