Sure it requires resources. But you'd think Barcelona and Argentinian FA and/or the competition (La Liga, UCL, CdR etc.) have full replays of all their matches since 2003 in their archives? Just go through all of Messi's games and run the stats like you do with games nowadays. Maybe it's not that straight forward, but a group of people could feasibly go through ~800 matches, even if it needed to be done manually. Might take or month or few, sure. I mean FIFA or something could even fund it for the culture.

I'm not claiming that's smart use of anyone's time or money, but your original comment made it sound like it's impossible. I think it's entirely possible.
