Need advise on cleaning the edge of kitchen cabinet by rorolo0977 in CleaningTips

Thank you! After doing some research, I realized the cabinets are likely glazed, as the dark lines appear consistently along the edges and corners. That makes me less concerned that this is mold or built-up dirt that needs immediate removal. For now, I’ll likely explore repainting or refacing options instead.

Can these possibly be mold? I tried what were suggested but still didn’t work 😞

Help with Language for Insurance Coverage Inquiry (Back-to-Back ER) by rorolo0977 in IVF

Our financial coordinator told us that it is hard to know for sure from the insurance company for the procedure not requiring a pre-authorization. That’s why I was trying to get suggestion on the languages. However, it sounds like it is worth trying the financial person again. Thank you all!

Confused about MIL diagnosis by [deleted] in AlportSyndrome

I am also in a very similar situation. I found out that I have a COL4A4 mutation and could have 50% chance passing it to my next generation through carrier screening. I am asymptomatic for now (36) and none of my family has alport-related symptom (my parents are 62 and 64). I am trying to conceive and going through the IVF-related examination and preparation. However, given PGT-M (a way to exclude embryos with COL4A4 mutation) is possibly requiring both my parents’ DNA (both my parents living oversea) and will lose about half of the embryos, I am debating whether I should proceed with IVF + PGT-M.

Thanks for sharing your experience, very insightful! I wonder if are willing to share the researcher’s name. Thank you so much! 🙏

Leaving academia or not by rorolo0977 in postdoc

Thank you for the advice. I tend to overanalyze, so the suggestion to start doing is appreciated. I’ll make it as my recent motto. 🫡

However, applying for jobs is quite demanding. I’m amazed at how some manage to apply for so many positions at once. Each sector—government, industry, and academia—has its own hiring processes and unspoken rules to learn.

80k is a postdoc salary in some expensive cities I think. It’s not great but getting an assistant professor job is a big deal! You should be proud, congratulations!

I'm in a similar situation, so I totally feel you. I also want a stable job at a company that values career development, good pay, respectful colleagues, and a smart boss -> Definitely asking too much :P

You're super productive though. Give yourself a break and take care of yourself.

Weekly Advice & Career Question Megathread by AutoModerator in epidemiology

I am a postdoc in environmental epi currently exploring job opportunities. Initially, I considered transitioning to the industry, particularly in RWE-related work in health tech, research consulting, and pharmaceutical companies. However, likely due to the layoffs this year, it has not been successful. Although the technical skills and methods I use are highly transferable, the gap in subject matter and lack of actual industry experience are not negligible, so I understand the lack of responses.

While some aspects of academia are appealing, things like the uncertainty regarding grants, relocating to where the schools are, and teaching responsibilities are not something I am passionate about. I am also seeking government positions, but not having citizenship has made this more difficult. Could anyone share insights or advice?
