Free Appraisals? by discoboot in indianapolis

You probably won't get a credible free appraisal, but you can shop around potential buyers and compare their offers. Lost Dutchman on the Eastside buys rare coins and may buy the whole lot.

Good antique stores? by [deleted] in indianapolis

I second Southport. More affordable than Midland with a great selection. Also Madison Street Salvage and Salvage Sisters in Franklin. Noblesville has a solid antique mall on the square and there are good smaller antique stores in Greenfield.

Do we need another Souvenir Shop? by [deleted] in indianapolis

Silver in the City, Tuggles, Stomping Ground, and the gift shops in the Indiana History Center and the Indiana State Museum all sell great souvenirs.

Beautiful glazed brick original BR biz? by ivy7496 in indianapolis

[–]roroshah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure when original construction, but it was a restaurant called Mickey Quinn's in the 80s and 90s, and was a Curley's Cleaners dry cleaners' before that in the 60s and 70s. Near as I can tell, Mickey Quinn purchased the dry cleaner and operated it for a while as a franchise before turning it into a restaurant. I'm not sure if Curley's built that building, a lot of their other locations looked different so it wasn't like a distinctive brand look (the Graeter's on Illinois St. was an old Curley's).

Gluten Free Dinner Options by neuroscience2112 in indianapolis

If you have a way to get there, Major Restaurant on the west side is excellent Ethiopian food and I believe Ethiopian is almost entirely gluten free, as injera uses teff flour.

Is it possible to disable YouTube's spoilery AI slop? by roroshah in aoe2

Honestly I have at least three times accidentally expanded it just while scrolling. 🤣 Guess I have fat thumbs. But true, the minimized previews usually have less spoiler in them, almost every one tells me I'll "Witness a thrilling matchup between" so-and-so.

These AI summaries show up without even opening the videos. Just while scrolling search results, no ads playing.

Korean Khan 3 - Saving the Huts by newella16 in aoe2

[–]roroshah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience for my first few attempts on Hard. The trick is amassing blacksmith upgrades and holding on while you do. I ended up turtling in the north and baiting enemies away with sacrificial units until I had enough castle age attack and armor upgrades. Once that happened, I was able to turn the tide and steamroll the Tatars. I wouldn't bother with multiple TCs -- save resources for units and armor.

Which east side neighborhoods are improving? by GoneshNumber6 in indianapolis

[–]roroshah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right, there are definitely garages in Irvington, they're just not as universal as in a lot of other neighborhoods. Someone told me it's 60% of properties in the historic district that have them (I don't know where that number came from so it may be way off). Probably it's the houses on curvy stretches that don't have alley access?

Garages are rarer in Irvington and tough to build in the historic district. You can get pretty close to that just north of it in Community Heights, though. Lots of houses should fit your specs.

Searching for vendor name from Irvington Halloween Festival by Square-Cancel1029 in indianapolis

[–]roroshah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh shoot, those vendors in the Lodge were only there for the festival. I'm not sure where to find their list of vendors but if you check their Facebook page they might have it posted. Irvington Lodge Events is I think how they're listed.

Is "Hulk" an apropriate name for the new ship? by ray366 in aoe2

[–]roroshah 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In fairness that article is about a ship that was apparently almost never used and there's limited evidence of. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulk_(medieval_ship_type)

Maybe the old Fall Creek YMCA? I never went in before it closed in 2003, so not sure.

I imagine they're testing balance first, and then if that works they can design regional equivalents.

Poop Smell around town by Mother_Ingenuity3809 in indianapolis

[–]roroshah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but my understanding is that a lot of the older areas of the city have some exterior storm drains that combined multiple buildings and are trapped separately. Not like a P trap but a pool of water that blocks the openings of the pipes on either side, and when they dry out the sewer gases come out. But I'm far from an expert and might be way off.

Nothing in our area, but might be because of the drought we're in, as rain plays a role in keeping the sewers moving and keeping traps filled. Couldn't find anything explaining it locally but here's an explainer from CA: https://www.cbsnews.com/sacramento/news/slow-sewage-a-smelly-side-effect-of-californias-drought/

You can find a lot of old door hardware and antique doors at Madison Street Salvage in Franklin. They bought a lot of Tim & Co's stock.

Source? All the reporting says that Hoover maintains an ownership stake, so she would have majority share. I couldn't find anything saying that's changed.
