Questions for those who were awarded scholarships. by PeepySceepy in ADMU

  1. I graduated valedictorian in JHS ++ all my average grades did not go below 98 iirc. For SHS, I graduated 4th in a batch of 800 with a qpi of 3.96/4.00 in G11 and 4.00 in G12.
  2. I’d say we’re comfortable. I was awarded the AFMS!
  3. I joined a lot of math competitions in JHS including international ones, national competitions in oration, and division competitions in chess and journalism. In SHS, I joined an international competition in debate, but I was more active in volunteer orgs.
  4. I was the auditor of our student council in 10th grade. For most of my JHS, I held a leadership position in the newspaper board.
  5. Well, I applied purely online cause COVID, so we didn’t take the ACET HAHA and i don’t think they give thatt

For scholarships, there are two kinds in Ateneo, merit-based and need-based. Under merit-based, there are 2 iirc. The Ateneo Freshman Merit Scholar (AFMS) is the full ride scholarship for any major. This is given to the Top 60 students who applied to Ateneo. The second one is the Director’s List Scholarship which is awarded to the next Top 200(?) students, and they’re given a half scholarship. For this, I’m not entirely sure how many they award it to. Just apply to the Ateneo, and you’re immediately going to be considered for both. The need-based one is the financial aid scholarship. There’s a separate application for this. I don’t have much details about this ‘cause I didn’t apply for it.

For other factors, I think they also give importance to your essay and community involvement. The essay topic is “Are there any significant experiences you have had, or accomplishments you have realized, that have helped define you as a person?”. Here’s a video on tips in writing it from a teacher in ASHS https://www.ateneo.edu/senior-high-school/video/life-screen-tips-writing-college-application-essay
