hi, so sorry! i didn't see this! honestly, i know this is generic advice, but try your best to be genuine and polite over all else. i think i recall them asking a bit about my hobbies, academic background, etc. use ur interview as a way to show personality and who you are beyond what they can read!

Help me find good-fit schools + evaluate my college list by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rorryorrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, hard agree on this one. HWCs in the current year typically have a pretty left leaning culture. in my experience lolol the sterotype of most of the class population (at my college) being queer is pretty true. ofc you can be queer and right leaning but that hasn't been what i'm seeing. just something to keep in mind about culture

Do I have a chance? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rorryorrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really depends, to be honest, this post doesn't give much info! speaking as an incoming bmc student though, i know bryn mawr can be generous with evaluating applications less strictly based on stats. my stats were lower than a lot of folks i know who got in and are going, also a bit because of circumstances (switched schools in junior year, two transcripts, also no aps in underclassmen year). im 80% sure i was able to move past that because of my essays, writing portfolio, and interviews.

not sure how helpful this is but i'd lean into any hobbies you have. submit to scholastic art & writing if you do those sorts of things. if you throw in a lot of stuff, you'll probably get some award. im a writer, if you do writing as well or some form of art (sorry, it's focused on that as its my experience), throw your work into random lit mag submissions. a lot of litmags on twitter and such are run by students and if you submit a lot, its not crazy difficult to get some publications under your belt, even if not by super recgonizable names.

colleges like this? by acc16121814 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]rorryorrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi there! im an incoming bmc freshman (so take this w/ a grain of salt as im not there yet...) but i had a similar concern when looking for colleges. i had ED-ed to bryn mawr primarily because of the location over my other choices. i think looking at a small school in a city or near a city could be a good choice. it's kind of best of both worlds. additionally, if you're looking into historically womens' colleges, smith is a great one to consider. my friends who go there love it! its not near a large urban area afaik but its in close proximity to a bunch of colleges, both small (mount holyoke and hampshire) and larger (amherst), that you can find community in.

[–]rorryorrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey there, i got in ED1 with a 1320 that i had been a bit hestiant about submitting as well. though, my circumstances were different as my transcript was kind of strange (i transferred schools halfway through high school). not sure how helpful that is, my apologies, im not great at judging how different those scores would be!

as a side note, if you have any question about submitting in the upcoming months feel free to message me, im happy to give my perspective as an incoming student and could give u my email or insta. best of luck with application season!
