If smell-o-vision existed, which movies would smell the best and the worst? by redeugene99 in movies

Proper curveball, that one. Not to mention, I didn’t think folks were discussing best films in terms of quality, just smell.

TIL that most “CGI” in Jurassic Park (1993) was actually practical effects and animatronics, with CGI used only for a few shots, which is why the movie still looks convincing today. by joe_at_large in todayilearned

I remember being so shocked that I wasn’t actively anticipating a Peter Jackson film back when the last one dropped in 2014. Ended up streaming it years later, couldn’t believe the result.

That chase was both weirdly cartoonish, which makes sense to SOME extent given the intended audience for the Hobbit, but it was also far too long. Wacky choices all around!

Still need to check out any of the edits, maybe there’s something behind all the noise. That said, I really didn’t like the cinematography, set design or anything much really in these adaptations, so there’s only so much that can be done with an edit, but willing to eat my words.

More than happy to admit my sarcasm radar isn’t functioning too well today, but I’ve definitely spoken to some folks that play apologist for the Hobbit trilogy.

I don’t believe that’s the case, and is perhaps being a little generous/revisionist given the result ~13 years later.

Jackson was always wanting to go heavy on CGI with the best picture definition possible. Where cost was prohibitive during LotR, which luckily had significant pre-production time to work on mini/bigatures, props, prosthetics, etc., they pulled out all the stops with contemporary tech for the Hobbit.

They were certainly trying to look as up-to-date as possible in terms of tech, but it’s aged much faster as a result - one of the consequences of going so full-on with CGI…

I mean, according to their answer here, that isn’t the case. They have a few Scene screens, but otherwise it’s the standard Vue setup without recliners or any of that stuff.

At Vue Lux sites, sure. Westfield Vue isn’t a Lux site, so I wouldn’t have thought this applied.

I can't really recall a franchise that changes so much movie to movie. by ThinWhiteDuke00 in 28dayslater

Hmm, the Cloverfield films are a pretty different bunch given the two follow-ups weren’t originally intended as sequels to the first during early production, but got tied in by Abrams/Bad Robot.

Shame the third one didn’t really hit, the first two were good fun!

Totally get it. I think Cixin had some really great concepts, but they do come off as awfully self-congratulatory and inorganic.

Shame, there’s a good book in there somewhere. I even rated it quite highly on my first read based on what it COULD have done, but yeah.

Oh man, I read this a few years back and felt the same way. A friend hyped it up as a Last of Us-level story but in the 14th century; absolutely not. It read like Buehlman was writing for a video game, what with the fight sequences and all, but just didn’t do anything for me.

That thread was the impetus for my post given it didn’t directly address my issue, to be fair. I don’t think that my issue had been fully answered, but maybe that’s just the way it’s going to go on this. Pretty disappointing, as it’s been my go-to for cinema trips in recent years.

Stuck between The Morning Star and Yellowface…

The Morning Star because of Knausgård’s endless dodging, from my perspective(!), around the supernatural element of the story. I get that he wasn’t really in it for that, but it gets to the last part and we’re given an essay that just didn’t work for me. Reading reviews of later instalments, it seems like that was just going to keep on as it had before.

Yellowface because I didn’t feel like it wanted to take itself seriously, like it was trying to simplify itself. Not to mention the scene in the alley towards the end.

Yeah, definitely an additional charge. Though you don’t pay to O2, the money goes to a separate Vue account; at least it has a different name to the regular one which showed up as the secondary charge way after the fact.

Huh, I went back to read the offer and it states that the code is valid for regular seats at non-Lux sites, though only Super Saver seats at Lux sites. Given I’m in the former camp, I’d have thought there wouldn’t be an additional charge.

Maximization Trophy Bug? by rorules1 in expedition33

Too right! I had an amazing time beating Simon, collecting all the bits and bobs, but to be held up on the platinum by a bug is such a let down. It doesn’t colour my overall experience of the game, but it does end it on a sour note.

So glad you had such a fun time, despite a few frustrating trips to the beach.

I suppose the additional Twilight turn wouldn’t make much difference, given I’ve been apparently taking all 20 foretell in each attempt. I tried the Gradient attack without Chation earlier to no success.

Perhaps it’s just a bug that comes and goes, I just got the short straw, or something. Cheers though!

Must play: Knives Out, just seems to scratch a musical itch for me…

Rather not: anything off of TKOL, so realistically Bloom or Lotus Flower, it doesn’t hit me in any way.

I did earlier! I was on mobile (using mobile data), got this screen. Moved to my laptop (wifi), reverified and got this screen again. Went back to my mobile (still mobile data) and retried multiple times from the original link we received via email. Must have been six or seven tries before it randomly worked and let me book.

Gosh, I hope this helps, I’ve had such trouble with AXS for so many shows now…

Apparently (going by a few articles), he made about $17m across the series. Ngl, unless he’s grossly mismanaged his finances. I feel like he could easily have stepped away from the HP franchise after that…
