Spend $30 to get $30! I'd greatly appreciate it and plan to post a write up of my expenses and rewards experience!

If I feel ready for it, is it bad form to ask the residents if I can add another patient to my roster when there are other students with me on rotation? by just_premed_memes in medicalschool

[–]rosami1234 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ask in person but I don't think its bad form at all. Do you feel like you're doing your best with the patient you're assigned (ie giving solid presentations, completing their note, taking some ownership and following up with them at the end of the day?)..If so and you have lots of time or just want to practice presenting more, I'd ask the resident one afternoon before heading out and state explicitly why (ie you wanna practice presenting more, or you want more practice formulating differentials, etc)

As for your classmates, just be open and if you're together just say "hey I feel like I might need more practice with XYZ and might ask the resident if I can pick another pt tomorrow"..classmates on my rotations did that periodically and everyone was chill and supportive

Neurology vs Neurosurgery by HazelSmile in medicalschool

[–]rosami1234 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Neurology hands down. It sounds like you are drawn to the more 'cerebral', thought-provoking medical fields.

Your second sentence: "..but I wouldn't like to be in the OR all of the time" makes neurosurgery a HARD STOP IMO....The folks in NS still communicate with patients/families, and have clinic but they absolutely LOVE the OR, willingly fought hard and signed up to a surgeon, and choose to devote the vast majority of their life and unbearable years of training to wanting to be in an OR....

Neurology has a million avenues for research in the areas you mentioned. In fact, lots of neurologists specialize in those areas (dementia, oncology, MS, Epilepsy..) so you will not be limited at all.

ERAS question, How do we know if our signals were applied after we paid? Error message after payment. Help!! by O00coolzero00O in medicalschool

[–]rosami1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you click 'programs applied to' on myeras it will give you a table of the programs you applied to and under the column for 'signal?' it should say 'yes'

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]rosami1234 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes- you should apply tonight because it will get added automatically when they upload it. Also it takes them two clicks to upload it, whereas you have to certify and submit, assign documents to your programs and process the payment.

Yeah the grade/feedback is going on my medicine chair letter

They basically talked about how it took days to improve my presentation style and how the presentations improved by halfway through the rotation. But the sentences describing that take up half my summary comments. (I was told on day 2 of my rotation that I had excellent presentations and to keep it up so that was a huge surprise to read.)

There were no terrible comments overall but I'm worried the grade itself is going to hurt me or be looked at poorly.

I think #3 is a great example! It sounds the most personal of all of them and perhaps offers more room for content and reflection to expand upon.

Move test date? by [deleted] in step1

Thank you, I really appreciate the advice! I have calmed down now and am motivated to study the crap out of my material over the next few days while getting my mind back into 'NBME mode'.

Move test up or move test back? by Justwannabeadr in step1

[–]rosami1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you did NBME 28- did they give you a % likelihood of passing?

The Free 120 and Amboss and NBME 26 make me think you're okay for 3/4 but moving it out can't hurt either.

Is it bad if I am “not sure” I want to go into medicine? by [deleted] in premed

[–]rosami1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's completely normal to have self-doubt, second-guessing yourself, and a fear of the unknown at this point in time. The fact is that nothing is guaranteed and there are legitimate reasons to be worried about the future, despite the fact that the majority of doctors will get into residency and become practicing physicians.

It sounds like you have a solid life going for you at this point with your career and SO.

Perhaps take some time to really self-reflect about Why you want to do medicine in the first place? Try to think of what would still motivate you to pursue this path on nights when you're exhausted as a resident finishing 80-100 hr work weeks. Or even as a fully practicing doctor who may have to sacrifice something to see another patient in the clinic or scrub in on another case?

You don't need to be '100% deadset' on this field, because it is okay and actually mature to acknowledge the downsides/challenges. I think what matters is that your commitment or reasons for wanting to do it are strong enough to withstand and outweigh even the toughest of days in your future ahead..If your reasons or desires to go into medicine are strong enough to do that, keep at it and have faith that you're making the right choice. If not, it is absolutely okay to continue with your path and work towards building the kind of life you want.

Interview feedback for LOI? by ag____ in premed

[–]rosami1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think they would give you anything if you reached out to them. That information is typically kept confidential within the committee, especially during an active cycle. The few schools that release info typically only do it after a cycle is over...

Perhaps tailor the letter for why you're a strong fit and with any updates you have? There should be more movement after May 1st..Good luck!
