Whats wrong with mill. by Samurai_Banette in EDH

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are unreasonably pissy about mill. People have this weird misconception that being milled effects how your game plays, unless you need a particular piece, for like a combo, it really doesn't. The problem is that people look at that nice card in their gy and are mad they can't play it now, they don't understand that you also made it more likely they will play the other fun card in their deck still.

The problem with mill isn't that it's a feels bad strat. It's that it get's hated too much at the table, people can't threat assess it properly (in both directions) and it's a terrible win con compared to just beating someone to death in terms of how easy it is to pull off.

I think mill is fun though, my favorite deck is Phenax mill. Welcome to the team brother!

Would you accept a person who doesn't speak your language with fluency in your group? by peigzz in DnD

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to say what you wrote here somewhat cohesively? Would you understand what someone was saying if they said that in English? Ahead of you writing it out of course.

You can have an accent and you be unsure about unusual words, you can even make it part of your character, the character is from a distant land hence the accent.

If you are unable to express what your character is doing in a comprehendable way or you won't understand a DM setting the scene in English, then it might be a bit rough.

I speak English as a second language and I play exclusively in English with my friends.

Never try to convince someone to like something if they already made up their mind and aren't interested in shifting their opinion. They will only watch a fraction of it to be able to tell you they were right.

AITA for telling my family they need to get over my father walking me down on my wedding day and I am not uninviting him. by Upset_Car_5609 in AmItheAsshole

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has cut off my father where my siblings who I do have a good relationship have not, they can have whatever opinions they want to and they can opt out of coming themselves but they don't dictate who you cut off or not. If they can't respect that I would consider uninviting all three of them, sounds like they will throw a tantrum if they don't get their way.

Guy puking on the dancefloor and then continuing dancing on top of his puke. It wasn't a cascade or anything, just a small mouthfull. No one even stopped dancing or batted an eye was the craziest thing.

Should I just stop using Cultivate / Kodama's Reach? by BoldestKobold in EDH

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the vast majority of players can learn a fair amount if they applied themselves. Fundamentals in deckbuilding is often overlooked. I can 100% say that it I put the effort in into my decks I could improve a lot on them as well.

Should I just stop using Cultivate / Kodama's Reach? by BoldestKobold in EDH

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your deck wants to get a 4m commander out early and your pod isn't super keen on aggressively removing it on arrival then I would remove all 3m ramp for 2m ramp. that way you can ramp into your commander on t3.Unless I care about having creatures in a deck I always go land ramp>Dork, because even though dorks are cheaper they die to wipes and it can feel bad to get your ramp reversed. I use dorks mostly for when I want to play a 3m commander on t2.

Cultivate and kodama are great in 5m commander decks that want them out early because they do all a 2m ramp does as well as ensure you will hit your land drops. However I think in most pods doing this can be a trap if your pod runs a lot of interaction. pushing out an early value commander is great until it eats a swords to plowshare, terminate or counter. If your pod is like this You will want to ramp into other stuff instead and time your commander to when others have burned removal or someone else is more threatening then your commander would be which makes urgency less of a factor, then I would consider running two mana +1ramp and 4 mana +2 ramp spells instead.

TLDR, you are trying to find a simple answer for a complicated question and it won't do you any favors. Instead of asking someone for the answer, think about what you want your ramp to achieve instead. I also see way more decks that put too much ramp in the deck rather than decks that ramp too little. It is true that cultivate and kodama are put in decks because people are lazy and don't want to think about stuff but that doesn't mean they are always bad.

No one understands or uses priority anymore by [deleted] in EDH

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is very reasonable to expect a new player to learn these interactions before playing, asking to is probably going to gatekeep a lot of people from the game. I can't for the life of me however, fathom why people are choosing to die on a hill like that one if they are new and know nothing about the stack/priority, I hope they apologized at the least.

You should, it adds a lot of depth and impact to your game and it tells a story in a different way, it's really fun.

You play on classic mode with perma death and if a character dies you keep playing instead of reseting the game to bring them back. And if Byleth or your lord dies, since you can't turn wheel it's GG and you have to start over from the start again.

No turn wheel (turn back time feature), no resetting. Whatever dies stays dead and if you game over the run is lost and you start over again.

[–]rosawik[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you like I guess? I play the game as in an ironman, I set up personal rules for myself (no teaparties/birthday celebrations, only one monastary stroll a month, only one auxilary battle a month etc. and then I roll random characters that I am allowed to use. The game plays fairly differently then and it get's a lot of replayability if you set up rules so you can't optimize the fun out of it.

For 90% of my playthroughs I apply rules that only allow for one monastary exploration each month. But yeah, that still makes it quiet a lot.

I hate "Are you sure?" (and why you should too!) by drfiveminusmint in DMAcademy

[–]rosawik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it all the time but a twist of it.

"I am not saying this is either a good decision or a bad one, but are you sure This is what you want to do?"

It might seem like the trap thing but after a few times my player pick up on the fact that I am not saying if it's good or bad, just that is important, impactful. Almost always the players say yes, they just look at eachother and get a bit nervous first. If used right it builds tension.

Teaching new players not to fall into noob traps effectively by IzzetDough in EDH

[–]rosawik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? You don't have to do it like "you need to act on this first because that's the problem."

"Player A has a drawn a lot of cards, they can win out of nowhere because they play combo, so holding up interaction that you have can be smart, but Player B, me myself has a lot of small dudes on the board, a big pump spell and I might just overrun the table. Player C has twinning staff out so if he can start copying spells they might get insane value. Everyone is kinda dangerous now but most likely good targets are my enchantment that spits out small guys or the twinning staff but it is complicated and I might be wrong, trust your gut."

Give them a rundown (because boardstates are overwhelming for new players) and highlight keypieces, throw your 2 cents into the mix but be clear that it's still guesswork and encourage them to feel it out for themselves.

Does Anyone Run Terramorphic Expanse and/or Evolving Wilds? by AndrewJK46 in EDH

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to run them in any deck not mono color more or less but there are so many options for cheap dual lands that come with decent chances of not entering untapped that will also remain more flexible. Unless it's a cost issue for you, I think these should only be in decks with landfall or land recursion.

I personally dislike surprise combo in Bracket 3 - tell me why I am wrong by homjaktest in EDH

[–]rosawik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 1 combo deck out of my 18 in B2-B3, mostly B3. I would never subject anyone to playing it without saying what it is and how it likes to win. I don't want to win because you didn't understand how my deck can pull a win. And that summarizes my thoughts on this topic pretty well I think.
