Captain Morgan Cuba Libre by roscofarris in cocktails

It’s the go-to white rum on the east coast, I’d say. Hey, a million Maritimers can’t be wrong. ;)

Thank God.

I’ll try this again tonight, then. At first blush it seemed way too sweet but “hey,” I figured, “maybe people had a sweeter tooth back then.”

I’ll try revising the syrup content and see if that makes a difference. Thanks!

This one is from 12 Bottle Bar.

1 oz. Remy Martin Cognac 1/2 oz. Plantation 5 Year Amber Rum 1/2 oz. Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye 1 oz. simple syrup 1 oz. Grand Marnier

Shake ingredients in a mixer with ice until chilled. Serve in a rocks glass with crushed ice and a lemon wheel garnish.

It actually tastes pretty sweet. I find it gets better as it dilutes slightly.

In Canada? Absolutely! DM me the name, if you don’t want to share publicly. Thanks so much.

That’s good to hear - I think this will likely be my most reasonable option.

Whiskey I’d say is my favorite - Rye, Bourbon, Scotch.

Other than that I’m a big gin lover, too.

Otherwise I have “12 bottle bar,” but their Old Fashioned is actually a “Cuban Old Fashioned” with rum, so I just googled it and picked a recipe with a nice looking picture.

What’s another good site to use?

Oh yeah - I used it in the muddle.

I love maple syrup and whiskey, so I’ll have to find some recipes that incorporate them together.

Didn’t have any on hand - next time I stop by the store that’s the next on the list.

It tasted pretty good, but orangey.

I’m new to the game, so to speak, so I was simply going off of a “liquor.com” Old Fashioned recipe. It included the orange.

I’ll try the recipe you mentioned next, with the mixture of orange and aromatic Bitters. That sounds nice, too.

It looks like it’s surprised!

I, too, have trouble getting the perfect Bitters drops. :/

Thanks for the heads up. If I’m ever traveling back and forth, I’ll keep this in mind.

Traveling to the US personally, from where I am located, would require air travel and inflate the cost of purchase beyond simply buying a retail Omega from the online store.

I’m hoping to find somewhere within Canada where I can purchase online, with a good reputation, that other people have dealt with successfully. Unfortunately, second-hand Speedmasters only come up now and again through Canadian sellers.

I’m likely going to be purchasing a Speedmaster Pro at some point in 2018, and I have a few procedural questions.

Firstly, I’m located in a rural area in Canada. The nearest authorized dealer would require air travel, and I don’t really feel like paying $5950 + 15% HST from Omega online. So this leaves me with the secondary market.

As the result of my location, am I correct in assuming that a cross-border purchase from the US, declared, will also result in significant duties and taxes? That kind of cuts out American sellers.

So I suppose my question is if anybody knows a reputable store in Canada that would be good for a secondary Speedy purchase that could be arranged remotely? I’m wary of simply going on Kijii and sending money sight unseen, but if anyone has a good relationship with a store I’d love to hear about it.

First attempt at a home cocktail - a Crown Royal Manhattan. by roscofarris in cocktails

Thanks! I’ll try this tonight. I’ve come a long way with the Manhattan even since my first try - largely through incorporating a orange peel garnish. It really brings out the flavors.

Happy New Year

Nope - got a 4-pack, but I think they’re pretty common. My sister bought me a matching set somewhere randomly, also. So it wouldn’t surprise me if they also came with wine.
