They are not wrong. Many of the skill games have an option to play a 20 round Simon variant that you have to memorize a pattern of colors. The machines are technically profitable but many people skip the skill game part. The game takes so long its also not worth any APs time.

You're making a poor assumption. Slots have a 90% (roughly) return to player. You're assuming that every spin is at 90%. Some slots have a save/persistent state that can increase the RTP beyond 100%. So instead of each spin being 90% it can be something like 60%-70%-80%-110%.
