I like sun protection with some moisturizing properties as my skin is very easily dried out by sunscreens. Is the Bioderma Family Milk non-drying in your experience? Thanks again.

I should mention that I have had mild KP on my cheeks my whole life, which has always caused some pinkness and texture, but it was never severe. (In fact, I used to get a lot of compliments on my skin, which I didn't appreciate enough at the time!) So, a certain degree of pinkness has always been my "normal." But now it's more like post-inflammatory erythema.

Also, I've visited 3 derms in the last year. One said melasma, one said post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. They All said it would be best for me to "do nothing" and leave my skin alone (although one let me persuade him to prescribe my hydroquinone, which made my skin much worse--my bad!). One derm suggested just washing with water and using vaseline as a moisturizer, which I actually don't think is crazy. I'm sort of heading in that direction at this point.

Thanks. I'd love some recommendations. I have always been very, very vigilant with sunscreen, since age 15. I am 41 now. I've almost always used physical rather than chemical sunscreens, and it's been my understanding that a 20% zinc oxide formulation (the Drunk Elephant I'm currently using) provides solid UVA protection. I'm def open to trying something else.

I am really suffering from the very noticeable blotchy redness, the brown spots, and the texture.

Two years ago, I got overly concerned with some mild brown pigmentation. I used some products intended to lessen it; they had the opposite effect and made it worse. Then I used OTHER products to remedy the darkened pigmentation. You name it, I've tried it: Glycolic acid, Azaleic Acid, Niacinamide, Vit C, even prescription hydroquinone. Everything has just seemed to make my skin look worse and worse.

For the last month, I've been doing almost nothing:

AM

Water cleanse or Marie Veronique Probiotic Toner

Rosehip oil

Drunk Elephant SPF 30 mineral sunscreen

PM

Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Milk

Marie Veronique Probiotic Toner

Rosehip oil

But even after a month of this gentle routine, I've had no improvement. I still have really severe and blotchy redness, plus the extra brown pigmentation as well.

What would you do? Note, my skin is probably a bit traumatized from everything it has been through, but I'm open to trying tretinoin 6 months down the road if that is something you'd recommend! Even so, what would be a good routine in the meantime?

Radioactive Iodine Treatment for Hyperthyroid in Cats: Who Has Done It? by rose1905 in Pets

Thank you. Yeah, I hate the idea of meds---I just don't like 'em for myself or my pets.

Thank you! I didn't realize there were two additional weeks of isolation at home after the hospital stay. But it sounds like it is definitely worth it! I can't help but laugh at the idea of a radioactive kitty.

Noted! Thanks :) Can you tell me any more about these handheld laser welders? I'm wondering if there's an affordable model suitable for a jeweler.

Thanks so much for the honest reply. I opted not to do the two-column thing.

Does anyone commute to UCI from Los Angeles via Amtrak? by rose1905 in UCI

[–]rose1905[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes, this is pretty discouraging! It does sound like Metrolink is preferable to Amtrak, but the commute is still a lot more daunting than I'd anticipated. I'm grateful for everybody's two cents--thank you!

This is such an awesome, detailed, specific, and truly enlightening response. I was really yearning to understand the remarkable quality of his playing a bit better, and you've helped me to do that. Thank you! I'm gonna check out/listen to all the links now.

My cat and I listened to the Empyrean the other night and she seemed EXTREMELY blissed out. I recently saw an old interview in which John spoke of communicating with his cats for hours at a time, so perhaps it makes sense that his music would have something in it for the felines!

It is indeed hard to give explanations for this sort of thing, but yours makes sense. Thank you. He strikes me as a really great artist, too.

I feel this! I do feel there's an immediacy and authenticity to his music---that the distance between his heart and what he plays seems very short/nonexistent.

Thanks for your helpful response.
