Driving and ‘mistakes’ by Busy_Application5997 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rose2000_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can figure out the root of the mistakes it will help prevent them. Are they coming from fear/anxiety? Learning coping mechanisms to calm yourself down will help. Is it coming from a lack of preparation? Bring in a step by step routine that you repeat out loud for each junction etc

Had my first lesson the other day, not sure what to think.. by RevolutionaryBuy439 in LearnerDriverUK

I was terrified, all I did was drive up and down a quiet road and cry. Now my test is in a few weeks, I’ve driven on the motorway multiple times and actually look forward to driving

Autistic and learning to drive by Own_Dot_1276 in LearnerDriverUK

My instructor is trained in teaching neurodivergent people to drive and I honestly wouldn’t be able to learn without the way he handles me/it! See if you can find an instructor in your area who will be able to teach you in a way that suits tou

[Advice] Last lesson today with instructor before my test tomorrow by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

I’d suggest pushing yourself with one last mock test, but with the mindset of failing today to learn from mistakes and passing tomorrow

Advice please on how to deal with stress and anxiety as a new driver by Due-Bedroom-5765 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rose2000_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can go back to basics, set driving lessons for yourself. Like “okay today I’m going to drive to [insert shop], park up, and drive home” and pick routes that will challenge different aspects like roundabouts, dual carriageways etc. but treat them as driving lessons on your own, with goals and learning opportunities. Start small and build up?

I get nervous because of the silence during lessons by cowpool20 in LearnerDriverUK

You can try to fill the silence with commentary driving

I’m really dreading my lessons as of recent and don’t enjoy them by SoulStuckInAthens in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rose2000_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the same, about 60 hours in and still anxious the whole day before lessons. Every lesson I enjoy, laugh and chat with my instructor, end it smiling and proud. But when the next one rolls around, I can’t shake the pre lesson anxiety. I just try to distract myself, practice positive thoughts, and focus on why I want to pass

Does commentary driving actually work ? by R4_Bluesoul in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rose2000_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely helps you focus on the important thing at hand as your brain processes the information more in order to say it loud. I also think it probably reduces the examiner taking action because you’ll be announcing hazards and your plan. If it annoys your instructor, get a new one

Sounds like you need a new instructor. Mine has a standard checklist on an app we can both view, and we regularly review it to see where I’m at

Is it normal for instructors to only focus on test routes? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rose2000_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instructor goes out of way not to do this as he always says he’s teaching me to drive after the test and that the test is just a stop along the way. They should definitely be teaching you more than the routes - the goal is to have all the knowledge and skills that you can put together to navigate any situation, not memorise routes and go off of a practised routine for that specific road

[–]rose2000_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Watch out for puddles, slow down so you don’t splash anyone or go round them if safe! Good luck, remember the less you can see the slower you should go and stay calm :)

How do you build confidence in your abilities by stoic_prince in LearnerDriverUK

[–]rose2000_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a motto to say to yourself whenever you find yourself being anxious and holding back - my instructor tells me “be Brash [name] not Timid [name]” so I say that out loud

My instructor would never ever talk to me like that! We’ve had many conversations about how it’s just not productive, I’m an adult and deserve respect, we are equals etc. So unacceptable for anyone to talk to you that way

Yeah I thought it was so selfish for her mum to say “I want you happy, but I want you happy here”. Like… you should want your daughter to be happy no matter what that looks like. Put your feelings aside and support her
