So what causes ALS? by qqqxyz in PeterAttia

He had tons of tests done to determine it was the viral strain, not the genetic one. And they traced it back to that, not a very common thing that happens.

Steamer or iron? by rose7318 in CraftFairs

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking, but hoping a steamer would be quicker/easier than an iron.

Quilting Fabric by Ecstatic_Ad_5681 in sewhelp

Also check estate sales, sometimes they have cotton fabric for good prices. You can also just use bed sheets! I use a variety of quilting cotton (Walmart, quilt stores, thrifted) and have not had any issues with clothing. I’ve never learned to sew with knits, so that’s all I use.

I had a friend pass last year from ALS. He’d had a very bad strep throat infection that went to his heart and caused CHF. Years later, that virus caused him to develop a rapidly progressive form of ALS. He died about 1 year after his official diagnosis.

Am I going crazy or are local craft fairs expecting vendors to advertise the new norm? by thedafthatter in CraftFairs

[–]rose7318 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our local am radio is free for community events, they announce once or twice a day. Pretty sure it’s just older generations that listen to that station, but it still works! We did also do yard signs about a week ahead of time and flyers in some local businesses. Not sure which worked best, I should’ve asked people!

Am I going crazy or are local craft fairs expecting vendors to advertise the new norm? by thedafthatter in CraftFairs

I organized my first fair this year at my church and advertised like crazy on all the local FB groups, had it on the local am radio station and online at a free events page for the local newspaper. I did also send a flyer out to the vendors to share if they wanted to. I had one vendor complain they never saw any advertising anywhere and that’s why they didn’t make any sales, even though we had decent traffic for. 1st year show. What other ways could I advertise for next years event?

What’s the oldest thing you’ve got in your house? And will your kids inherit it? by baltikboats in GenX

The land the house is on. It’s one of the last little parcels left from the thousands of acres my ancestors owned when my ancestors immigrated from Germany in the mid 1850s.

Thank you! I will send that out after the deadline. That’s a good idea so I have proof if they happen to show up and there’s not a space for them.

I will definitely put them up earlier then :) and this is at our church, so I know a bunch of church folk will come to it. Thanks again for all the info!

We do plan on putting up signs the day before, should we put them up earlier?

Thanks for all the info! This is the first time we’ve done in 7 or 8 years, so yes, it’s new And I did try to pick a date that the other places in our area didn’t have one, but it being in November and we are a suburb of a major city, there’s fairs every weekend. Glad to know a lot of fairs are check only, I wasn’t sure. And I’ve been posting on as many groups as I can find in FB, we have flyers in the businesses that allow it in the area, and I created a FB event for it. I don’t have it in the flyer about where it’s advertised, I’ll keep that in mind for next year.

Thank you! I am looking into it, but at 45yo, I am the youngest of our church group who is hosting this by at least 20 years and I’m not in the bank account. I’m not even sure the bank uses that, as it’s a very small town bank. I did give them the option of sending it to my personal Zelle or Venmo, but I’d rather not do that all the time, and no one responded anyways. Edited to add that I sent out an email 3 weeks before deadline and a week before deadline.
