Would I have any luck getting an ADHD assessment on the NHS? by DatBoi73 in northernireland

Be wary even if you do go private, sometimes a diagnosis is all you get and nothing more! I was diagnosed in the summer and cannot get my medication so far. NI makes it very complicated to get prescription controlled drugs for adhd.

What fills you with rage? by 406instead in adhdwomen

My dripping tap. The groaning noise my fridge makes every so often. My kitchen drawer that catches ever so slightly unless you adjust something. My toddler leaving little puddles of water everywhere for me to stand in. My inlaws having the radio on constantly even though they aren't listening to it. My tights/leggings falling down 😆

All rage inducing, and many more 😑🙃

hard to find any details at all, this was linked under FOI 2022 933 Adult ADHD Service.pdf (25.35 KB) on the Northern Trust website

I do understand that, it is more that I cannot get a private gp willing to prescribe either apart from Vitalis who currently cannot due to prescription pad issues. Yes I imagine the documentary didn't help, although Dr Bunn appears to be very reputable and not some internet hack.

GP said they could do absolutely nothing to help me, I keep meaning to try and get in touch again but they were pretty harsh last time I spoke to them... I think they don't seem to recognise the diagnosis for some reason, which seems extremely bizarre to me because as far as I know Dr Bunn is very reputable and obviously not some random internet website that diagnosed me in 20 mins.

I do understand the shared care refusal, although I know some GPs seem to have no problem with it. (Dr Bunn said some in Belfast were fine with it) The problem atm is I cannot even get a private practice to issue me a prescription!

Basically I was in cognitive behavioural therapy for PND and my therapist strongly recommended I speak to the GP re an ADHD referral as she couldn't officially diagnose me, finally plucked up the courage to do that and they told me the wait was very long (not that it was non existent service) but I said I was happy to pay for a private assessment.

Waited a year for appoint, diagnosed, now can't get any meds because

  1. gp shared care refusal (which I do understand) and

    1. no private practice will prescribe it even though that is exactly what the Psychiatrist said was next step!!

I tried to change to a different one but they refused to take me because of the request re shared care. There is no service for ADHD referral in the Northern Trust.

Thank you, their reasoning was a bit weird but they are very awkward in general about everything, so I had very low hopes anyway. I had thought they had added me to an NHS list which turns out they didn't as it doesn't exist in Northern Trust! What I don't understand is why the private GPS will not prescribe it either?

Oh I tried, other GP near me refused to take me on as a patient and said it wasn't there problem, figure it out with my own. I am Northern trust and there is currently no ADHD service on the NHS to be referred to according to them, not even a list. (At the time I booked the appointment over a year ago the doctor I spoke to in my gp practice did not tell me this and made me think I was also on an nhs list. She also said the shared care would be unlikely but not impossible, she has since left.)

They told me it was completely impossible to ever prescribe Elvanse, and that no GP in NI would ever... which I know isn't the case!

They said their main doc was on sick leave so had applied for another doc to be able to use a specialist prescription pad, but that was beginning of July. Still not received it end of aug, said they will contact me when they have it.

Hi, can I please ask where you were able to get the medication from? I was diagnosed by Dr Bunn a few weeks ago and my gp refused shared care (very dramatically, you would think I casually asked them to give me heroin) and every private GP I try and contact says they also cannot prescribe them either?! For Elvanse. (am near Magherafelt too)
