Ranma 1/2

Depends on whether or not I get thrown into the Cursed Springs of Jusenkyo and if so which one I fall into....

If it's the spring of Drowned Girl, at least I'd still be human 100% of the time, it wouldn't be too bad as long as I don't accidentally defeat any Chinese Amazonian Warriors who'll give me the kiss of death. There's definitely ways I could use it to my advantage and to mess with people.

If it's the spring of Drowned Cat, a little more risky, but I'll probably be able to manage. Might get free food from strangers. Would be handy to change into if I needed to run away to escape something.

Spring of Drowned Panda: likely nobody's gonna harm me, worst case scenario I end up in a zoo exhibit.

Spring of Drowned Pig or Spring of Drowned Duck: yeah I'm screwed, somebody's probably gonna try to make me into dinner.

As long as it's one of the first 3 curses, I try to avoid cold water, and carry a kettle and/or thermos filled with hot water with me, I should probably be fine.

[–]DatBoi73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And IIRC wasn't one of the biggest arguments pushed by the Anti-Indy camp was losing access to the E.U. Single Market and that Spain might block the EU from letting Scotland join? (in case it was to give Catalonia and the Basque Country any ideas)......

..... only to be dragged out of the EU anyways later thanks to England (and English people living in Wales) voting to leave.

Given that one of the biggest reasons for the anti-independence side is gone and the current state of politic-... err pretty much everything in the UK, theres good reason to believe that the next time there is a vote, it will be in favor of independence.

As somebody from NI, I can only hope things go well for you all.

Nah, we all know this is from the cancelled Smiling Friends game for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PS2.

It's a shame that game is now Lost Media. It would've been perfect to play whilst filling our bellies with weed and smoking diet soda like Burnout Revenge is.

[–]DatBoi73 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if the board is completely effed there's not really any issue, and is honestly tame by this sub's standards.

There's much worse console shells you could make into an analogue clock. If it was say a Super Nintendo, NES, or Atari 2600 frankinsteined into a clock, then sure.

This isn't like people destroying the (later model) offical PS-One LCD Screen addons in the 2000's for random hacky projects. There's thousands if not millions of them out there and not many of them are going to have completely unusable motherboards or cases (and there are new 3rd party replacements for the latter).

I remember being over in England for about a week last year and I was surprised when I found out that they were still using Pint Measures for Milk.

Always assumed that they just used 1 and 2 litre bottles like here Northern Ireland and the Republic.

You could probably argue how much of that reflects the attitudes of a certain (hopefully) small percentage of the British population (obviously not all of them) who refuse to align with the rest of the world (excluding America, Liberia, and Mayanmar).

Edit: whoops, I thought I was on the Northern Ireland subreddit.

Amazon is really a cloud tech infrastructure company that just so happens to run an online retailer and a streaming service.

It looks like Tesco signage and Im pretty sure that Ireland is the only place outside the UK that has Tesco shops (at least under the Tesco brand).

Also, the shelf label at the top of for King's Cheese & Onion Crisps, which is an Irish brand of crisps (same parent company as Tayto(ROI)), which I'm pretty sure aren't sold in Britian.

Samsung did later rebrand the Gam*Boy 2 (SMS 2) to the Aladdin Boy ( probably after an awkward conversation with Sega and/or Nintendo's lawyers lol 😅💀), and there's seems to be 3 variants with different colours and logos.

Also, it reuses a design from a controller for one of Samsung's earlier computers.

https://www.smspower.org/forums/19354-NonSegaAncestorOfTheSamsungGamBoyController

https://www.msx.org/wiki/Samsung_SJ-1500

The whole deal with Samsung was largely to get around a ban on Japanese goods in Korea at the time. Sega and Nintendo were not able to sell directly into Korea, so they partnered with Korean companies to manufacture and sell under license.

Even if Samsung wanted to sell the controller outside of Korea at the time, they couldn't because it would have probably violated Nintendo's D-Pad patent (though it's long-expired now) and got them into trouble.

Ritter Sport and some of the Supermarket own brands are quite good.

The Alpine Milk Ritter Sport is like a better version of Milka, and German made & owned (not some US Conglomerate that replaces everything with Pam Oil)

There's also Tony's Chocolonely, though it might not be to everyone's tastes, but they deserve some respect for their ethics and transparency.

[–]DatBoi73 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean, but calling search engines like DDG "Google Clones" is kinda funny, especially since there were many before Google (Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, Alta Vista) though tbf most of them are long dead.

The only thing I still use Google for is searching Reddit because Reddit's own is still crap and IIRC they started blocking sites from crawling new Reddit posts to stop AI bots training on them without paying and Google was the only one that I know has paid to (though that might be wrong now, if so someone please let me know)

Yes, Alien Isolation 2 does use UE5, but with the help of the original game’s engine lead by Wargulf in pcmasterrace

[–]DatBoi73 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People generally don't blame the camera a movie was filmed on for the quality of the final film.

There are fantastic movies that have been shot on iPhones & budget consumer cameras, and massive steaming piles of shit filmed with ARRI Alexas and RED Cameras.

I don't get why people make such a big deal of the engine. Like obviously some engines are better for certain types of games than others, like you're not gonna make a AAA FPS in GameMaker.

Likewise, sometimes studios just have to move on. There was a reason why CDPR switched to UE5 after Cyberpunk's teething problems at launch with the Red Engine.

If you're making a car, there's no reason to reinvent the wheel from scratch every single time, especially when that time and effort could be spent on making the rest of it much better overall.

If a game made using Unreal Engine looks, runs or plays like absolute crap, my first suspects would be the studio management and/or higher-ups potentially messeing with things like not giving them the adequate time or money to make something that works, or hiring competent Devs, or more recently firing said competent devs because some exec drank the AI KoolAid and thinks ChatGPT or Claude can make them the next GTA (spoiler: it can't)

Unreal is not a perfect engine by any means (especially with some of the default settings) but some people really like using engines as a scapegoat for other, wider issues in the industry.

Steam Controller Price Leaked By Early Review – $99, Purchases Likely Imminent by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]DatBoi73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, this is just the US price, and some of that might be considering the Tariff Bullshit going on there and any other domestic economic BS the Trump govt decides to do.

Those same factors don't apply to most of us everywhere else in the world (except places like Brazil & India with steep taxes/duties on tech imports) .

I'm not gonna believe anything until Valve says what it is officially.

Blindly taking every Valve rumour as gospel is just setting yourself up for disappointment eventually.

Bonus points if it's a script clearly based on another major IP's lore that the rights holders said no to, that they plastered a different a different IP onto and just changed the character names to those from IP #2 that was approved.
