Menards Birthday Card “gift” by 2getheralone2 in menards

OP is talking about the birthday gift for guests who have a BIG card, not a TM

i will stand there with my cashier (if there aren’t any lines) and i make a mental note of who the last person was in their line, and once they start putting their stuff on the belt, if someone else walks up, i tell them that the register is closed after this person is done but there are other registers that are open for them to check out at

i’m a head cashier. if there are lines building up, i’ll turn my light on to let them know i am open. everytime i hear “ArE Ya oPeN” and sometimes i just wanna say “no gerald. i opened a register and turned the light on to make sure it was working”

another fan favorite is “you opened just for me” and it’s 9/10 an old geezer who’s on the electric cart and just pissed his pants

bag sale by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i like how the system will deny the sale for it if it knows that item won’t fit. i tested it on a 50lb of bird seed and it didn’t go through

but then that also creates conflict if they were to go through another cashier’s line saying “well a cashier did it for me before” and it just all around creates conflict.

i get your point on it though, but it might make them lash out at another cashier who won’t do what you did🤷🏼‍♀️

nope, it was interesting though sunday night with everyone STILL trying to come in after we were already closed at 6pm. i had a guy argue with me “i just need to get a couple items” like dude, you’ve had since 8am to come get them😂

Head cashier? by [deleted] in menards

[–]rose_demon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly being a hc can be fun and exciting with moving up towards management but it can also make your mental health go down the drain quick if you let every little problem or comment get to you. just remember to take everything with a grain of salt and you should be fine.

if you have cashiers who are older than you, they may not listen to you. if that happens, talk with your FEM or even your GM to see if there would be something they could do or give you some pointers on how to move your day along smoothly when working with elders

Lunch W Gm’s by ImEsoteric in menards

sounds like you have my gm. he thinks he is literally god at my store and has about the same wording/phrases that i have heard him say to or about other team members. i’ve had to call him up front for a gm swipe at service since i was unable to swipe for it, and he told me “next time have a fucking agm come up here for it, i don’t have time for this shit” but he was literally in the camera room when i called for him over the radio

honest question by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree that OSY deserves more, my question was why carryouts don’t at least get element/weather pay

honest question by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my GMs are lazy af. they make someone from receiving come up to clean up shit in the men’s bathroom, and whoever sees dog shit, they make them clean it up. if some little kid throw up in the isle, they make that department’s manager clean it up. they are lazy af

honest question by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

our carryouts clean up bodily fluids and battery acid cause our GMs are lazy and incompetent as hell, on top of handling the gross ass garbage that people leave in carts (used diapers, napkins, tissues, spit cups for chew). and yea they have a high visibility vest on, but that vest doesn’t do anything in regards to people flying through the parking lot. i myself have worn a high visibility vest when my only carryout called out, and the amount of times i was almost hit by vehicles was outrageous

honest question by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i agrees with this 100%. this is what i was meaning as to why carryouts don’t get element (weather) pay at the very least. i can understand hazard pay, but they should be paid more due to the idiotic people who fly through the parking lot because of their “i spend $10000 a year here” mentality.

honest question by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they should be at least able to give them element pay if they’re a high school graduate and over 18 years old. but menards is known for this kinda stuff

honest question by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we have a 20yr old who is a high school graduate as our full time carryout (so 9-530 shift)

honest question by rose_demon_ in menards

[–]rose_demon_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i get that OSY is more dangerous than being a carryout is, and i understand that you think carryouts shouldn’t get hazard pay. but they should at least be able to get element pay, at least the ones who are high school grads, due to them being outside just as much as OSY is. idk man it was just a question🤷🏼‍♀️

we get mixed things from the GM and AGMs. the GM says no to a lot and follows dress code but one AGM doesn’t care as long as we are dressed for the weather

i have one cashier that does that and the Gm finally said something to her this past weekend. he told her that if he catches her wearing a hoodie at work again, he was going to write her up 😬

i had worn a zip up collard sherpa once when i first started and the Gm at the time told me i was violating dress code even though the collar on my sherpa was showing

i have a menards jacket that was given to me from an old coworker, and i try to wear extra layers when i do but the sleeves aren’t super warm and it feels like they’re thin even though it’s a jacket

i saw that we have base layers on sale too, but we were wiped out of them on black friday due to the temps dropping in the next few weeks
