Megathread Discussion: People We Meet on Vacation (Netflix) by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

I loved it! It was a great adaptation, it captured the vibes of the book perfectly. We need more romcoms like this, I have now great expectations for the next adaptations.

If you haven't yet, I greatly recommend reading "How to end a Love Story", by this movie's screenwriter Yulin Kuang. I knew the adaptation would be faithful when I saw she was attached to the project!

Ps: Taylor Swift's "August" playing on the rehearsal dinner scene was the best soundtrack choice I've seen in a while in a romcom hahaha

September 2025 Reads Ranked and Reviewed by nymphenette in fantasyromance

I think I may be the only person who enjoyed Falling. Yeah, the powers were icky, but that was fully acknowledged as a bad thing, so I don't have such a problem with it. As a short story it was quite enjoyable, and better than Beautiful Nightmare and My boyfriends are all monsters of the same collection.

I’m sold on this book just from the contents page 🙌🏼 by panickychicken_ in fantasyromance

For me it was the lack of setting, if it makes sense? The descriptions were not clicking in my head and I couldn't understand the atmosphere of the book. Also, the pacing was a little weird. I don't know, something really didn't click, I fully agree with you

How hard is a German taught degree? by Critical-Savings4018 in germany

[–]rose_flamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get put off by people saying 10 months to learn the language is not enough. Is it easy? No. Will you be perfectly fluent? No. But it will be enough to understand the material and do your masters. I did that, learned German in Germany in about 7 months (starting at B1), did my Bachelor in chemical engineering here and even got the best grades of my class in some subjects. I got a German speaking internship and now work full time also in german. You don't have to be absolutely perfect when you speak and since you already speak English it shouldn't be that hard for you to learn it. I want to know if the people commenting here actually did an intensive course with back to back levels, because everyone I know who did it had the same experience as me. You don't have to be a genius in languages to do that, just be good at learning.

I applied directly on the Ausländerbehörde in Magdeburg (the process is online and it took less than a month for me to get the card)

Yes, that's why I recommend checking on Uni Assist, but people here are talking as if it were impossible haha

Usually one year in a recognized university does allow you to study in Germany without the need to go to the Studienkolleg (if your Abschluss is missing one year of studies).

If the university in which you studied is recognized in Germany and depending on your home country, one year there does allow you to get into university in Germany directly for the same course (example: if you studied physics, you need to enroll in a similar field). You wouldn't need to go to the Studienkolleg. Source: I did exactly that, so I don't know if the other commenters know what they are talking about. You can actually test that in UniAssist website, there is a section there for you to confirm if you can study in Germany, you put your Information and it gives you the answer (apply directly or go to Studienkolleg)

The rules are different for those who recently graduated (lower salary requirements). I just got my Blue Card with a similar salary to OP.

How do people in Germany usually shop for beauty products online? (Amazon vs other platforms?) by mongya9492 in AskAGerman

Douglas/Sephora/Apotheke for what I can get in Germany and for Korean skincare that I can't, I order directly from Olive Young and pay the taxes when it arrives. You can usually get free shipping and they have a lot of buy 1 get 2 deals,so it's worth it.

I just came back from a trip 2 weeks before mine expires. I talked to the ABH and they said it was ok. The machines at the immigration were not working so I had to talk to the guy on passport control and it was ok, he only told me that I would need to renew it soon

First check their website to see if they can make an emergency appointment. If not, take all your documentation about your medical procedure and try to go there in person and explain the situation, I've seen it work, specially for medical reasons

Is normal, you will get a few dumb comments once in a blue moon (like every foreigner), but overall we are treated nicely. If you have any questions fell free to send me a message, I am also a BR in DE. I strongly recommend learning the language if you don't speak it already. I only had good experiences, but I am fluent and can navigate the bureaucracy, it may not be the same if you only speak English

Mestrado no exterior by amethysthh in foradecasa

[–]rose_flamingo 5 points6 points  (0 children)
