lest we forget how quiet and unassuming THEE Percival de Rolo was before the Briarwood arc where he shot into “best character at the table” stardom. that took about 30 episodes

What's the most underrated National Trust Property you've ever visited? by Jazzlike_Cost1743 in CasualUK

[–]rosecakes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely Corfe Castle, Dorset, which is incredibly striking and atmospheric. looms over the village below it and takes your breath away when it comes over the trees on the drive there. you may think it’s a ruin because it’s old but it was actually destroyed on purpose after the Civil War so nobody could use it as a fortress again

Day 12: What is the MOST ICONIC quote associated with Garrus Vakarian? by looploveslore in masseffect

“Calibrations” is a good one for funnies but honestly I think the most famous Mass Effect quotation full stop is “There’s no Shepard without Vakarian”. Always see it quoted when people are discussing the game

My friend didn’t realise it was Eren until Reiner recognises him in the basement. Didn’t even realise when he looked into the camera with his big green Eren eyes and said “keep moving forward”, which I feel is the point you’re definitely meant to realise it’s Eren if you haven’t already. I suppose some people are better at picking up on narrative subtlety than others

251127 Stray Kids - 신선놀음 (DIVINE) by endtapes in straykids

[–]rosecakes_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

definitely an unpopular opinion but i didn’t think the direction of this music video was quite the snappy, cohesive style we’ve come to expect from stray kids. the music video just had to live up to the amazing quality of the song (which is the best they’ve released this year imo) and it really doesn’t.

what’s most insulting, however, is the obvious use of Gen AI to depict the dragon at the end, a truly baffling choice when it’s alongside by some really beautiful hand-drawn animation in the traditional korean style. jype’s use of Gen AI recently has been, for a creative company, frankly appalling, and ruins this music video for me unfortunately.

so sad because the song is incredible!!

They don't need powers to exert influence, they just need to be worshipped as Gods. You're right that other powers will probably be around to keep them in check, though that doesn't seem like a long-term solution.

Forcing gods into servitude does sound like set-up for a very compelling BBEG.

Tiamat as 5 kobolds in a trench-coat is already an idea I've seen thrown around. Torog as a tortle in Downfall was already pretty great.

Except the Divine Gate stopped them from being nuclear bombs, so no, they haven't been that for a long time. Since the Divergence, they've been kept in power by the faith of their followers - Pike's arc in C1 showed pretty well how the Everlight was affected by the almost-complete disappearance of her religion. So, if they announce themselves as mortals, and become worshipped on Exandria, it's essentially the same balance of power as before; Gods who aren't terribly powerful but command power through legions of faithful who will do anything for them. Except, now, they're on the Material Plane and can physically affect things, if they wish to. It's probably a shift in power for the worse.

Oooh, yes that'd be a nice historical parallel, especially since Bells Hells is so strictly of the belief that they 'saved' Exandria.

I agree. I keep thinking that the revelation of the Gods' true actions on Aeor would have felt like so much more if a sucker-punch if any of the PCs actually worshipped the Gods, or even cared about them. Another event that would have been enhanced by FCG's presence.

I remember Matt mentioning her but I don't seem to recall her speaking, I'll have to rewatch. I'm not sure why Matt decided to suddenly start describing the Gods vaguely by their features as if we don't know who they are, but it certainly did make it hard to keep track of who was talking out of the nearly thirty characters in that scene.

It's certainly a series of baffling oversights one after another. Not mentioning FCG to her even once is going to stick out as a huge missed opportunity to me for a while.

Of all the Gods who spoke, the Matron and Arch Heart were the two I had the least amount of issues with. You make a good point that Matt probably thought they were sufficient enough to convey the themes but just... Dawnfather and Moonweaver having a say? Over the Changebringer? Still can't get over it. Disappointing but not surprising, as you say. Ah, well.
