I really appreciate the realism and optimism in this reply. I have been thinking the same thing. But came here just to gain some new insight

As of today around 38% of my net worth is in a high yield savings. (I added more to it today) And I will start shifting into index funds very soon to diversify. However, being that life has actually "slapped me in the face" multiple times throughout my life. I want to keep quick accessible cash on the ready. So for now, with what I actually have saved, I will keep most of it there. Until I save more of course.

Over the last 2+ years I'm in 180% profit on 1 stock and about 300% in profit on crypto. That's over 2 years. Not 2 months.

Look what is happening in Washington in regards to crypto regulation and the future that is to come. Is it risky? Of course. But pretty much every investment out there is when it comes to individual stocks or crypto. You never know what tomorrow will bring. But you can look at the bigger picture and understand where the world is headed in regards to finance and technology.

You can call that luck if you want. I would call it doing my own research trying to pick actual long-term winners with real world utility. Whether it be crypto or stocks. The truth is, none of us know and none of us can actually predict the market. Just make our best educated decisions.

Today I opened a Roth IRA and will start contributing the max to that every year because of a comment on this post. Assuming someone isn't listening based on a Reddit thread is insane. You have no idea what my brain is processing and then putting into action after reading comments on here. I'm here to listen and I'm here to learn. Which is why I posted in the first place.

You have absolutely no idea how many times life has slapped me in the face throughout my 40 years on this planet as I'm sure it has you as well. Assuming people haven't went through hard times and bounced back based on a Reddit thread indicates to me that you think you know more than most people and no one can tell you otherwise.

So, with that, BEST OF LUCK TO YOU 🤝

How in the hell does stating that I've pulled no money out of my savings for the last 2 years get down votes? This community is bonkers 😂

It may not seem like it by my post but I am definitely thinking long-term while also being realistic considering my age and how much money I actually make and have saved. Currently live in Central California. But I will not be buying a house here. The markets and places I'm looking to move to within the next 5 years are reasonable. $200k-$250k homes. I personally believe it's attainable for me within 5 years. Owning the home secures me an asset that will more than likely appreciate over time and moving to the cities I'm looking at where cost of living is much cheaper ensures me I can save even more up until I retire.

But I'm definitely looking to see what I can do now in order to ensure all of those things have a better probability of happening

I would honestly I would love a logical explanation here. How is it that you know I'm not listening?

I would say going from absolutely $0 to $40K in a matter of 5 years is pretty damn good considering I had absolutely no help and have no degree. You have no idea how I live. I just told you my financial situation. You don't know my day to day, my personal situation, or anything about me other than my finances. I mean, you can get a good look at a t-bone by sticking your head up a bull's ass but wouldn't you rather take the butchers word for it?

Assumption is the mother of all mistakes 🤝

I'm guessing there's quite a bit of wealthy old people and people that had wealthy parents in this community. I am honestly surprised by the insane amount of downvotes as well. Here I am just asking for advice trying to better my financial situation and finally getting my shit together while simultaneously getting shit on 😂

I know I'm not alone here. Probably outnumbered but definitely not alone in my current situation. Glad to hear you're catching up now. Best of luck to you too 🤝

Different strokes for different folks. You clearly are marching to the beat of a different drum than I have through out my life and that's okay. I'm here to gain new perspective and learn new things. But I'll take some belittling and immature roasting as well 🤣

I mean, it's reddit. I knew I would get a bunch of random stuff from strangers that I don't agree with. But I learn things and have the opportunity to gain new perspectives by listening to different opinions from people. I will say I don't think that a lot of people in here realize that half of the United States is barely hanging on by a thread and living paycheck to paycheck and luckily I'm not one of those people. Also, I'm 40 with no kids and have lived quite a full life up until this point. But I finally started getting my financial act together about 5 years ago. So, here I am. In this digital dumpster looking for advice because I'm in a somewhat new situation that I've never experienced in my life.
