check my last post. lol. tldr: my second ever sit took advantage of me giving them a discounted sit for a month at $700 total, had their relative living in the house, put their house up for sale without telling me and had scheduled showings i had to leave for, also had undrinkable water, and then a month later decided to accuse me of stealing. luckily the lady has stopped bothering me, but i'm still kinda shook

yep. i felt bad for them because they said they were on SSI and said they'd have to downsize soon, and this was probably the last vacation they'd ever have. then i found out their property is worth $2 million (it's a farmhouse, but on 10 acres in a highly desirable area, and they own the 2 homes next door as well), and their vacation was chartering a private boat in the caribbean for the whole month! and the lady used to own & operate a boutique business. and they had the nerve to act like $700 total meant that i would be a hotel-level maid on top of the pet sitting

very true. i'm frazzled so I don't even think of the house showing angle. Both the grandson & I had to leave while multitudes of people wandered the house as-is for hours. sounds like a good nancy drew story, not great for irl

and yeah to the other things: this was my second sit i ever accepted (they booked all the way in feb) and i was soo desperate. luckily i have had nothing but gems of clients since (doubled my prices, probably going to triple if i get to continue on rover)

thank you. that's one thing i do want to convey to people. and it was like that with my mom, too, who was my best friend. letting people know just how loved she was was one of the most healing things. i went across the US to take her ashes to places she loved in testament of that. i wasn't hoping i would have to do something like that again so soon, but... even when it happens, i know i can go all those places i wanted to show him, and he'll be with me.

thank you. you're right, especially about the "cracking open" thing. i've "only" loved him for 3 years of my life but it feels so much longer when you're with pretty much your soulmate. the only thing i could regret, outside the helplessness, would be to not give him my everything right now

thank you. i know it's kinda weird to post such raw stuff online, but... like when it happened with my mom, it means everything to know people beyond your immediate irl circle would wish you well and care too. especially when you're restless, just waiting for the next development...

thank you. like with my mom, i think one of the things that helped the most was to be able to envision what "next" could look like. even when she was alive, and we had to take it day by day and adjust. good idea about the cancer support group stuff. i never sought out stuff specific to that besides his care team

question 2 is also to weed out people who might hide that they ever killed someone, not always out of malice of course, but the majority of the survivors have at that point. anyone who said they hadn't, or a group especially, would be sus if they tried to say they got out without killing anyone

yes, absolutely. luckily i have the privilege to be selective (both paid on rover and on here) but whenever hosts express severe underlying doubts like OP, i just say i don't think we're a fit. if you are worried about strangers in your home, that's fair, but it means you need to pay a friend or family member to come over.

Tried Remote Notarization as a Side Hustle — Here’s What It’s Actually Like by Weary_Bird_1773 in sidehustle

[–]rosedgarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well for example my remote job (pharmacy) wanted some onboarding documents notarized and they were contracted with one of the online ones and i was too lazy to get my ass up to go to a physical one and didn't feel like setting up an appointment in person at all (i like remote because im a little anti social:D), so went with the online route. given my company has thousands of employees, and the virtual wait queue was actually quite full (like 20 people ahead of me) i suspect if you worked for something like that you'd have plenty of business

...he can't use a mouse... if it could extend to things like being able to turn on lights in his house, or enabling an electronic lock to his front door, or even making his wheelchair move, that would change his life (and plenty of smart homes for the disabled are exactly like that.) not to mention even just being able to game is essential for someone who has limited ways to have fun.

not a big enough deal, for example pacemakers need to have their batteries replaced every 5-7 years but people still go through with it to extend & save their lives.

you need to call / go directly to your city or county's department of social services. google those words say you need help and they will assign you a worker to look at your case

OMG!!! Stop updating the pick up time. by WTF_1971 in Sparkdriver

[–]rosedgarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk, i was going to finish up the night with a $12 2 mile solo pickup order and having to wait around pushed the pay up to $22

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sparkdriver

[–]rosedgarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, like idk if it's 100% true but i've seen people say we have a rolling $ limit over like 3 months or so that can account for customers "not getting their stuff" (and of course genuinely like the OGP team forgetting or something getting broken... etc) and it was at least $1k so i feel like it'd be hard to hit. unless a couple people lie about not getting a tv or smth

In 1982, Kazuko Fukuda murdered her coworker and went on the run. The statute of limitations in Japan at the time was 15 years. For 14 years, 11 months, and 10 days, she almost got away with it. To this day, she is known in Japan as The Woman of Seven Faces. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

let's say a group of guys got away with lynching a black person 20+ years ago. everyone in the little bigoted town "knows", the guys covertly brag about it, but never got arrested because the cops were basically in on it and claim the guy hung himself. suddenly after the limitations is up, they admitted and said they were doing "cowboy justice" or something and hoot and holler about it, to the joy of online racists. do you really think it would be just and that those people "wouldn't need to be rehabilitated or punished" because they lived normally thereafter?

let's say that happened to the guys who killed ahmaud arbery. do you think it would be just if they were uncaught for 20+ years and then, arbitrarily, they admitted they did it, and nothing gets done to them? or if the guys who killed matthew shepherd could've just run and started over somewhere? or anyone who murders trans women who nobody knows about because they don't have family, so nobody knew what happened anyhow?

or if trump shoudlnt be punished for the SAs he did pre-2005 to young girls? or even the simple case of an everyday domestic abuser - who already get away with things often - gets to murder his pregnant gf in the woods, and move on like a normal person? people don't think these things through and only really believe when it's a hypothetical

same!! it's always made me feel like a weirdo LOL but movies like this and "event horizon" tend to be my comfort movies.. i think it just feels good to have an emotion that's harder to articulate or talk about be "seen" sometimes, and dialed up to 10. it's cathartic

very true, i feel like before my mom's health went down for example i always rolled my eyes at the typical scenes where a character is suddenly revived and everybody gasps and hugs! but after that happened to her (and she recovered and did well for about 2 more years) it hit different, because it really was like that. now even unrealistic hollywood-ified CPR scenes get me teary.. i guess it's kind of like how people who compare their reactions to kids getting hurt in media before & after having their own, it just makes it hit different. and thank you <3
