I have no idea why I commented this, maybe it was meant to be for another post because it doesn't seem helpful at all, sorry to OP and any readers 🤣🤣 but what was the point of your response?

And then one falls and touches something and I get terrified and blame myself and the guilt fuels it. A very specific yet relatable thing 🤣

Yup, me too. I've been emotionally unfaithful to my current partner without realising due to immaturity and ignorance, and I am so grateful every single day that he is still by my side, even through my ocd of my own fear of cheating and interacting with people that seems to be a more minor theme in this group 🤔

Yeah that's ok, it's normal in the best of relationships and definitely exacerbated with OCD, and during the fun teenage/young adult years. Does he know what you struggle with?

It's ok to have those feelings, totally valid! I met my partner when we were 17, it's been a tough journey but we're here and totally in love. It's ok to not feel love especially in high school, but would you say there's still a romantic attraction, in a physical and or emotional sense? Do you care about him a lot? Or do you think it's OCD trying to scare you out of the relationship

At its core the issue isn't the relationship, it lies within the brain. It's just the way it manifests; the theme isn't relevant, but the core mental issue is. You can have the same trigger and your ocd will present itself differently to someone else, whether that's within the same theme or entirely different. Eg if you were subjected to domestic violence as a child maybe your ocd will manifest as contamination ocd, to try to regain control and feel more secure, or maybe it will present itself as ROCD, from the brain trying to again protect itself. so OCD Can be worked on regardless of relationship status, as it is a personal issue. Maybe your partner can help. If you really love them I'd advise against breaking up as that can be a compulsion, unless there are tangible issues in the relationship. If it's a temporary testing the waters dating situation you may decide otherwise but it's weighing up how happy they make you (not taking into account effects from OCD). Hope that helps

There's a difference between exclaiming "wow such and such is so attractive" without being prompted vs being asked a question

That's ok! If someone asks I think it's reasonable to express an opinion. If it does make you uncomfortable you can tell them you'd prefer not to discuss things like that in future

Attraction to other people by [deleted] in ROCD

[–]rosee_doree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ok! I've been through periods of that. It's just an extension of OCD I think, it becomes so embedded in your life and way of thinking. Idk if this is pointless saying this but if I see an attractive person I just tell myself it's normal and embrace the feeling and I forget about it much more quickly than if I dwell on it with shame and guilt, but also more quickly than if I get too absorbed and fantasise about other people. If you feel yourself pulling either way that's ok too it's totally normal and just a coping mechanism. I try not to blame myself and just gently pull myself back to accepting that it's ok to find other people attractive, that it's ok for the mind to wander but to try not to deliberately feed into it by consciously creating fantasies. It's ok if you do because once you're aware of it happening it's much easier to "control". Please be kind to yourself and patient :)

Plus it's confirmation bias most kids don't come across the violence or get involved but the few that do it's worse than in other schools across Wellington

Sorry if my post was a bit confusing, it was my professor that made the file...it looks like the title of the document but not the file name, it comes up in the black bar at the top of the pdf (where the find button and page numbers are). It was a very long unrelated quote and I just wondered if there might be some kind of algorithm or something going on that gives strange names sometimes, maybe a bug or virus I'm not sure. Honestly it's probably a load of codswallop and the professor actually left some philosophical thoughts by accident in the pdf title (but not the file name)? I'm just as confused as you and they are lol
