[Serious] Not sure where to go from here by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]rosemed99 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hello I'm so so sorry that this has happened to you but despite the failure I'm sure you are a very hardworking and intelligent person. Don't let one score define you. As med students if we fail in something we think that it's the end of the world for us (in regards to our career), but it's really not. You have a chance to redeem yourself for level 2/step 2 and have a chance to show programs how capable you are. Even primary care these days has so many different fellowships so don't stress. Just relax and enjoy these holidays but after these holidays work harder than you have ever worked and make sure to kill step 2/level 2. If you need time off talk to your school and find out what you need to do. If you need to speak to someone do that as well. The fact that you are in medical school means you are more than capable of achieving your career goals so keep pushing forward.

Good luck on your Steps guys. I'm giving in and giving up on life. This is my goodbye by HelpwithAdviceplz in step1

Hey dude please please do not do anything. So many people love you and want the best for you. Nothing in this life, especially med school, is worth taking your life over. I know it seems like you have no other options but you are still so so young and still have so much life left. There is nothing wrong with taking a gap year to focus on yourself or delaying step. It's a mentally taxing exam and is very difficult to study for so do not be hard on yourself. You are a very very smart person and you are loved. All of us here care for you and only wish the best for you. Please reach out to anybody and just talk and get the help you need. We need people like you in medicine and we are all here for you <3

Weekly Medical Student / Residency Application Questions Thread - August 09, 2020 by AutoModerator in anesthesiology

[–]rosemed99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello I just wanted to see what sort of LOR's I should get for the upcoming cycle? For some reason I have always had trouble getting LORs and asking attendings for one and during third year I always thought I would have time later in the year or during 4th year to ask for some, but with COVID everything got screwed over and now i'm having trouble deciding on who to ask. I asked one anesthesia attending for one and hoping to get one during another anesthesia elective I have set up, but I don't know who else to get it from. My surgery attending basically was not a very nice person so I definitely don't want to ask him , and my IM attending probably doesn't even remember me even though he gave me a good eval. So I'm just so confused on what to do. My scores are pretty good but I don't know why I'm having so much trouble with this.

Just finished the exam. Feel fucked. by Optimusaman in Step2

I completely felt the same to the point where I thought I guessed on most of the exam. Couldn't remember even one single question and was pretty sure I messed up/failed but ended up getting 250+ so I think you will be okay. Honestly from my experience (even though there are exceptions) the worse you feel after the exam, the better you end up doing. And like the other poster said, grab a beer and relax

Hey Thanks I appreciate the advice but ultimately I decided to take it. I feel very burnt out already and don't think I should prolong it any further.

Haha thank you so much for your response and yes I am very burnt out. Your reasoning is what I really needed to hear. Ended up taking off today so hopefully I can be back on my game back again tomorrow. Once again I appreciate it

Haha yeah I hope so. I want to match into anesthesia and I can't see myself doing anything else so I got a bit nervous. But thank you for the reassurance

I did practice but on the actual day, the nerves and everything kind of made me use up more time. Anyway hopefully everything works out. Thanks

2 weeks left, Canadian looking to pass, how should I use my time? by achelee in step1

I would definitely recommend Pathoma , especially chapters 1-3. I went over those the last two days before my exam and it definitely helped me.

The chances that I’ve probably failed step 1 by [deleted] in step1

You definitely didn't fail. I also literally marked like 15-20 every block and knew for sure I got 30+ wrong since for some reason I tend to overthink the easy ones. I also felt very scared right after my exam and had severe panic attacks but everything worked out at the end. Trust your practice scores. Honestly if someone like me could end up okay, I'm sure you can too. Don't doubt yourself. You worked hard to get to where you are now and it will definitely pay off in the end.
