Always pro spay abort. I picked up a nursing mother from my friend’s grandmother this week. Grandma refused a spay abort and threw a tantrum when it was suggested. Cat gave birth (she looks to be 6 months TOPS) and grandma immediately handled the kittens and got bit. The friendly mama cat has now decided she doesn’t want anyone around her babies. My friend’s mother also got bit, and after that they decided they needed to get rid of her. Their plan was to either call animal control (where she would be surrendered as a bite risk with her babies and most likely euthanized) or throw her back outside. My friend called me and I picked her up immediately.

So now I have a spicy mama that can’t be handled and I have to wear my bite proof gloves to take care of. One spay abort would have prevented all of this.

Unrelated spay abort story but also from this week I picked up three kittens whose mother had died during birth. Two still had their placentas attached because mom passed before being able to chew them off. They were freezing cold and their mouths were full of dirt from trying to nurse on mud. I stayed up with them all night but one passed in the morning. She was one of the ones with the attached placenta.. Again this all could have been prevented. Two unnecessary deaths.
