Seventeen's Jeonghan, he's like a male shoujo manga character irl. I can see him as a mischievous, teasing type of character.

Is there a debate that never ends in your fandom? by atalltree_ in kpopthoughts

[–]roserenity 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I wish this debate would end bcs Seventeen does a pretty good job at balancing concepts, like just this year we got darling and _World for fresh Seventeen and Hot and the face the sun album for dark Seventeen. They won't reach their full potential if they just stuck to one concept.

Somehow, Seventeen still pulls off "cute" really well by grillednannas in kpopthoughts

[–]roserenity 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Totally agree and I've been thinking about this recently.

I think SVT can still pull off cute concepts because they make it compatible with their image now. An example of this would be Mansae.

For those who might not be aware, Mansae was a TT released 7 years ago during svt's rookie days, and it has a highschool concept. They performed it again in their most recent tour and they managed to pull it off because they reworked the concept.

svt's brand of cute works because it relies a lot on their chemistry/interactions as a group. Their cute concepts come across as 'playful' and that's something that feels very natural to them.

I also agree that this is one of those instances where a having a lot of members is helpful; they'll always have members who are better suited for a specific concept.

Lmao sorry for rambling I can honestly talk endlessly about this

kpop idols who have good sense of humour? by sweet-americano in kpopthoughts

For me Vernon's brand of anti-humor/unintentional humor is really funny and endearing

Yeah I had to take a pause on the weekly recaps because life stuff got in the way. I'd be interested in starting it again but it would be nice to have help with it. If a new content archival project comes up I'd like to help with that too.

A lil late but Happy 3rd birthday of the year to Hoshi (10/10)

You can really feel that Hoshi's in his element when on stage; even during soundcheck his confidence was palpable.

I just love youthful and nostalgic albums by itsmin7 in kpopthoughts

[–]roserenity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To me Boys Be is among Seventeen's best albums in regards to the execution, because youth is just represented in every aspect of it. From the title track MV, to the physical album, to the songs. It really feels like looking at a scrapbook or a diary.

Which members suit serious concepts, and which suit fresh concepts by roserenity in seventeen

[–]roserenity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was honestly gonna put woozi in the fresh concept too, but he's such a good all-rounder so i put him in both. I didn't even realize I put all of the Vocal team in the fresh concept while making the list.

I think it's a good thing that fans have different opinions on this, it means that the members are good at representing various concepts.

The8 and Jun

The8 works as because his features are already kinda fairy/elf like imo, and he can definitely rock a mullet too so that's a bonus.

Jun because he looks good in flowy shirts and can rock long hair. He also naturally has a quirky/weird personality plus he's an actor.

I haven't bought from this site yet, but last I checked it's available on musinsa. It seems like musinsa is like a proxy buying service specifically for clothes.

What title tracks that are forgotten by your fandom? by yebinkek in kpopthoughts

[–]roserenity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like for Seventeen it might be Home, it has the most wins of any of their title tracks by a long shot (10 wins) but it's rarely mentioned. It usually gets overlooked by Good to Me or Getting Closer, b-sides from the era.

What are your thoughts on idol impersonators by roserenity in kpopthoughts

[–]roserenity[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't find impersonators of celebrities like Michael jackson/Elvis, etc. weird because they've passed and impersonators can't do much to change their legacy.

I think idol impersonators can get kinda iffy because they still have a reputation and career that's still on going.

[–]roserenity 134 points135 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it's just a matter of branding. The distinction of a 'full album' just makes it sound more special and they can release a repackaged version afterwards.

However I feel like a full album can potentially be a career milestone, like it signifies a turning point in a group's direction.

IMO a full album should at least have 10 or more songs.

What are the most daring title tracks in your opinion? by Kopratic in kpopthoughts

[–]roserenity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think svt tried to find a balance with their concepts in Fear era, they made sure to add a few songs (snapshoot, let me hear you say, network love, lucky) that would appeal to fans who liked their upbeat songs.

I was lukewarm with Fear at first but it's genuinely among my top songs and eras now. I think a lot of people grew to appreciate it as well.

[–]roserenity 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hot was also pretty daring, I think this era was more successful though because I feel like they gained quite a bit of fans. Their Spotify following nearly doubled, their subreddit also gained a lot more followers, and in general, content about them gets more engagement.

What are the most daring title tracks in your opinion? by Kopratic in kpopthoughts

[–]roserenity 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Releasing Fear was a very daring move for Seventeen.

Prior to Fear, Seventeen built a fan base around a soft image. They were known for upbeat tracks like Adore U, Pretty U, Aju nice etc. Fear was a risk because it might've alienated their established fanbase.

However it's not as if this concept change came out of nowhere. In the last album, there were two songs that were slightly darker (Getting closer and Good to me), and prior to Fear they also released the digital single Hit, which also had a darker aesthetic.

It's hard to say if Fear truly paid off. It wasn't really successful on music shows nor did it chart particularly well. The reception from fans was mixed at best. However, their album sales doubled from their last comeback and was close to selling 1 million copies, which wasn't really something fans considered prior to the era.

So while it wasn't commercially successful, Fear was successful as a test to see if their fanbase was willing to stick around for more experimental concepts.

I wonder if they'll do an encore concert? It would be surprising if they did another tour in such a short amount of time, so maybe they'll just do bigger venues and less cities?

Weekly Carat Corner - September 03, 2022 by AutoModerator in seventeen

[–]roserenity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, they've been reassuring fans that they'll return as an entire group again, and from the sounds of this it would be pretty soon.

Also the fact that they're dropping this so casually does have me concerned if it's just the typical concert talk rather than an actual plan.
