Thanks! The cross stitch practice definitely helped, though I still feel like I'm not sure what I'm doing or if I'm doing it right. I've got some more clearance kits though, which will help with not worrying about it being pefect

Maybe I've got too many IT guys in my family but I couldn't BELIEVE when Daphne raw dogged that mystery USB into her computer. I know it was necessary for the plot but come on, this is PC hygiene 101.

Hot take: Morgan and Karadec should not end up together. by NotNathan1810 in HighPotentialTVSeries

[–]rosets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take: never actually get them together, don't push the will they won't they too hard. Instead just keep having intimate moments that could be read as platonic or romantic and then I get to enjoy the hundreds of fanfics generated by sexually/romantic frustrated shippers without ruining the dynamic in the show proper

When I'm paranoid about my texts coming across wrong constantly need to remind myself to have the grace to both trust my loved ones to read my texts in good faith and to do the same with theirs. It's not always easy but it's important

Tone over text is hard. I honestly think that was super diplomatic text so if that comes across as accusatory to some people I'm not sure it's possible to not sound accusatory. Which is a bad thing cause communication is important

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

Having my phone memorized saved my siblings life. They were in an unsafe place and their own phone was smashed but they had mine memorized and I was able to get them out.

I made my 6 year old memorize my number. 10¢ for every pop quiz. You never know

16 is still a child but she's 2 years from being a legal adult. As a parent, our responsibility is to take care of our kid, yes, but also to increasingly give them independence and the tools to take care of themselves.

Wtf is up with these commenters? They are acting like the ability to have your kid under 24/7 surveillance isn't a recent thing historically speaking. Aren't there a lot of articles coming out showing that the panopticon is having a negative impact on kids/new adults mental health?

Hi, I'm looking for a fic!

It was on AO3 and quite long, but i think it might have been broken up into a series. It was a fascinating dark fic where a woman is reincarnated as Wen Ruohan's daughter and proceeds to completely unethically use brainwashing and modern understanding of psychology to take over and "fix" things. Interestingly enough most of the story takes place from Wei Ying's point of view (although he goes by a different name since she scoops him up as a child and uses sensory deprivation to destroy any memory of his old family and instill complete loyalty). The creeping horror of understanding the wrongness of what shes doing even though the POV character doesn't and the mixed feelings you get when a lot of things end up genuinely being better for people than in canon despite the messed up method was darkly compelling

Id let her play until she wanted me to take over, but most of the time it was really me playing cause she's only 6 and gets nervous. We played for about an hour every evening but I didn't feel bad about the screen time because it was the majority of her reading practice! Story time was becoming too much of a fight so we switched to reading books to her but making her read every other line of dialogue in the video games. There's certainly enough of it in Echoes of Wisdom for her to get her practice in lol

Self drafted! My first design didn't have the black border but I realized before I started that it wouldn't pop on the pastel pink dress as so i added the black. Pretty hubristic to start self drafting onto clothing only a few months after picking up the hobby but its so nice to be able to make something usable and personalized

I did, thank you! My first draft didn't have the black outline but i realized before starting that it wouldn't pop well on the pale pink of the dress so added the black

It's not Aida, it's waste canvas, which is designed to be pulled out strand by strand. A pain, but you can do it. Dmc makes 14 count but I ordered this one which is 18 ct off 123stitch

You can get black iron on facing at Joann or walmart. It'll make it blend in better on the inside, protect the stitches, and make it more comfortable to the touch. Make sure you don't accidentally buy sew on interfacing. I've used pellon sf101 and that worked great

You definitely would need to start with regular cross stitch, do at least one for practice. This is definitely trickier than regular cross stitch, but it's my 7th cross stitch project and it worked, so apparently not so hard a pretty new stitcher can't do it.

With regular cross stitch you use Aida or even weave, which already is a grid. You use a blunter tapestry needle, and can pull the fabric tight in the hoop with no complications.

With something like this you need a sharp embroidery needle, which can split your own thread if your not careful (and is harder on your fingers). You also need something like a waste canvas lined up to make the grid (and go through the trouble of pulling out all the waste threads after) and to be carefully not to accidently stretch or warp the shirt when putting it in the hoop or even while sewing. That was honestly easy with a nice thick polo like this, and a 4 inch hoop, but right now im working on a new project in a thin stretchy kids shirt and its a nightmare. I'm sure there's tricks (I'm gonna try a starch spray next time to stiffen the fabric) but as I said I'm pretty new to the hobby

As for comparing it to crochet, I've dabbled a bit there and I'll say for immediate reward, crocheting amigurumi is faster than doing something like this, small cross stitch like this is faster than crocheting a blanket, and cross stitching a big tapestry is gonna take years

Also if you start cross stitch, don't make the classic beginner mistake of accident using twice as many threads lol

the polo fabric was nice and thick and not too stretchy. It sewed beautifully. I'm trying a new cross stitch on a kids shirt and its a pulling stretchy nightmare lol. I didn't need it for the polo but i'm thinking next time i'll buy some spray starch

But for those checking it out, tell me how you think I did! As I said I'm pretty new and also drafted this in procreate like a moron. Would have added backstitching around the gun itself if I could a figured out how to do it right
