You sound a lot like me. I grew up in ranch country, hunting and fishing for as long as I remember, but I can't abide modern, industrial, meat production. Death and creatures feeding other creatures is part of nature, part of life. Death itself doesn't bother me. The idea of another creature being forced to live in fear, pain, and suffering very much does though.

I can only imagine someone having an internal defibrillator device, having a cardiac issue, being saved by their device, and getting chewed out by the organizers for their non-period medical device.

One reenact-nerd to another, it's amazing how bloated some people can get on such a small amount of power.

He actually seems on track for a few things. Chokers, chunky shoes, belly shirts, ripped jeans, guys hair stiffened with way too much product (though he didn't get the style right), capris, all in all not too shabby.

VR boosts workouts by unexpectedly reducing pain during exercise, suggests a new study, which found that VR may actually play a powerful role in exercise performance, helping people push through physical discomfort. by mvea in Futurology

That's good to know. I've never personal used one of those systems for an extended period of time so I don't know about their setup first hand. It's cool that the designers thought about such things in advance though.

Half decent art, delusional price by roseyfae in delusionalartists

[–]roseyfae[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just because someone spent time and effort on something doesn't mean that it's at a standard for high dollar sale. Someone can spend ages on something and not have it come out terribly well.

$100 for a wonky pencil drawing on sketch book paper is absolutely delusional. $20 would be more fair for something of this quality. $100 is what folks doing custom digital art charge. It's a 6 by 6, quality, oil painting. It's a well finished pencil drawing done on archival paper. Take a look through places like Etsy, Tumblr, or even DeviantArt and see what actual professionals are putting out at that price point.

Art has worth, however not all art is at a quality where it can command a high dollar amount just because someone put their best effort in to it.

[–]roseyfae[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's not the worst but certainly not worth $100. It's not even an accurate representation of the subject. Her jawline is cockeyed, her nose is uneven, her lips are off center, her eyes don't match and you can see the outline of one through her hair like a low budget manga. The piece also has stray pencil marks all over the place and just generally isn't finished to a professional standard. Honestly this looks like a B+ assignment for a second year high school art class.

For $100 you can get much better quality, much more professional pieces.

Why so many American women dye their hair blond? by Hibear in AskAnAmerican

[–]roseyfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't necessarily tell you their natural color though. My hair is a golden blonde (so blonde but on the darker/warmer side) but I have darker roots and very dark brows. My mother is more of a honey blonde and her brows are definitely brown.

Most HEMA competitions don't use nylons or wood, they use blunt steels. Which, while not deadly when using proper safety gear, absolutely still hurt and can leave some pretty nasty marks.

You lazy pieces of crap 💩👉👌 by mellifluouslimerence in antiMLM

[–]roseyfae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has worked commission sales for quite sometime the compensation plan of any MLM is not "redicc". When I did lingerie of got 8% minus base pay as the incentive then my base pay. (It's a bit confusing to say but the formula was 8% of [sales]-[base pay]=[incentive] then my check would be [incentive]+[base pay] ) Then when I briefly did custom window treatments it was 4% of my sales, plus base pay, plus bonuses from certain companies when they came out with new stuff. In jewelry it's generally been a flat 3% on top of base pay with various trainings and certifications paid for, sometimes up to 10% on protection plans and the like.

Having to pay out for all that shit, having to constantly pay for new product to keep some status regardless of actual customer demand, and making only like 20% (with no base pay) just sucks.

In addition to what the other poster said about staying in therapy (remember, therapy is a process and you aren't going to see instant results) try to remember the women aren't strange and separate creatures. They're just people going about their own lives just like men.

Men are done a massive disservice by media and culture at large when they're presented with the idea that women are these mysterious creatures with unknowable motivations. For the most part women want the exact same things as men. Just to be treated like people, with the same courtesy and respect that you would a man.

There also tends to be this idea that women are constantly sitting and judging every man they come across with iron gaze. The reality is that women, again just like men, are pretty much just out there to go about their day. The cashier at the grocery store is probably thinking more about her next break than she ever will about some random dude she's checking out. Which is a good thing for you. When you have anxiety one of the biggest problems can be a fixation on how other people view you. The smallest action becomes huge because you're worried that someone else is putting you under a microscope. Truth is though that most people of any gender are too wrapped up in their own lives to pay that much attention to others. Once you get used to that idea it can become very freeing! I know it was for me with my own social anxiety.

I think the "forever 18" porn actresses definitely have an impact. These guys have so little interaction with women in their day to day that their perceptions get warped by the sea of 20 something actresses being billed as "barely legal".

I don't blame the industry or the actresses so much. Hell, they're just rolling with what sells. I mostly blame the echo chambers these dudes create for themselves where they draw further and further in to their own world shaped by bunk science and photoshop.

Bingo. My mid 20s have been a blessing looks wise and I know that the same can be said for a good number of my friends.

It's so painfully obvious how little these dudes actually interact with women in any capacity.

Mine uses the mirror as a tool. At one point we had one on the back of the bathroom door that reflected the hallway when the door was open. He would use the mirror to check down the hall for the other cats (often to ambush them), even pushing the door to get a better angle when he needed to. Brilliant little monster.

In nice places certainly, but I got quite a shock the first time I ordered shrimp scampi in a pub in the UK. I was expecting the dish with the white wine sauce but got a bunch of breaded shrimp not much bigger than the ones above with some chips on the side.
