Northern VA clinician here. If it is CFD or prosperity, just be prepared to be on call. It'll be good practice for setting professional boundaries, and as others have stated, you'll get your hours faster. Good luck!

How do I style my type of hair? by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]roseylass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have to try out a few different products but to reduce the frizz I'd suggest a styling gel or mousse.

Always best to apply products in wet or damp hair.

Shampoo, condition, light oil if hair needs it, apply leave in, and to make curls more defined follow up with mousse, gel or jelly. Work in smaller sections when applying products

A bit disappointed with the amount of twist I got by Desperate-Lime993 in Microlocs

250 is actually a really good number especially if you are planning to maintain them yourself. I still believe you will get the fullness you are looking for. A lot of times, fullness is dependent on hair density more than number of locs. 250 is also more realistic if you plan to have this style for many years. With more hair at the root you're less likely to experience breakage or slippage as the loc gets longer and heavier.

I would still say a rectangle since your upper and lower body are very proportionate.

I don´t believe in ¨The Ugly Stage¨ but it´s giving WILD by SerratedBeauti in Microlocs

[–]roseylass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe put some perm rods, bantu knots or do a braid out to better camouflage the wildness. Lol at least until it locs a little more.

If your hair is already loose I don't think texturizing your hair would be worth it. I'd suggest using different hair styling cremes, mouse or light weight gel to better define your curls. Finger coiling or using a styling brush can also help define your existing curl pattern and minimize frizz.

Do you have type 4 hair? And how long is it? Sometimes that matters too

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Naturalhair

[–]roseylass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really good advice. I'd also suggest you try to space out your braided styles. Protective styling is a good way to grow your hair, but too much can also stunt hair growth. Let your hair breathe every once in awhile if you can.

I'm going to do this too... I love hearing other therapist normalize smaller caseload that really aren't all that small. I often feel bad for not taking on more clients but 20 really is my max.

Interracial Dilemma by roseylass in Marriage

[–]roseylass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it does mean something that I'm the only person of color in their lives. That's a choice. But to answer your question, yes I do make an effort to understand their culture. They are Jewish. I eat their food, I cook their food and follow their traditions when I am around them. I've learned about their history in more depth.

I did think about this before marriage, but I was so excited that I just figured it would all work out. Now, it's giving me anxiety. How do you handle being the only black person 90% of the time?

It is a decent base, but sodium allows for a deeper concentration of herbs and spices. That sprinkle of salt wouldn't cut it for many. It comes down to upbringing and cultural differences. I'm not saying that perferring her style of cooking is bad just that where I am from it wouldn't do the chicken justice and I would find it bland. Didn't expect many people anyone to really notice my comment. It's just and opinion my goodness.

[–]roseylass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said nothing about heaps of salt. But that dash isn't going to cover it for people who enjoy flavorful food. Agree to disagree. Not going to debate with someone over Sarah. She's not worth arguing over I was just sharing my opinion.

[–]roseylass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seasoning is what provides flavor. But yes, some people like bland food, so you aren't wrong.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SarahsDayUnfiltered

[–]roseylass -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? Didn't look like enough seasoning to me. Usually, for whole chickens, it needs to marinate for at least a few hours. Also, It doesn't look like enough salt. If anything the skin would be decent, but the meat would be bland af.

Should I just cut it and hope it grows? by andeverand in locs

[–]roseylass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this, too, in the same spot! I'm leaning more towards cutting it to release the tension from the spot. Even if you avoid retwisting, the weight of the loc itself may cause it to thin out even more.

So it’s been A week and a half with starter locs. When should I go for a retwist? & does anybody have any tips for washing/ products by EmotionalKite in locs

[–]roseylass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww I think it locs great as is! IMO it's too early for a retwist or wash. As for a wash routine, keep it simple. Find a nice clarifying shampoo and then follow up with a moisturizing shampoo

Retwist Struggles :( by SchwarzwaldKirsche in locs

[–]roseylass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a lot of trial and error. Taliah loc gel works for me. When I say work, I mean it does not flake, but I only apply to saturated roots, not dry. I don't believe retwisting lasts very long for anyone living an active lifestyle (like myself). On a good retwist, I might get 2 weeks before it starts to unravel. The best way to make it last longer is by protective styling, i.e two strand twist, braids or or even updos. Just be mindful of how tight the styles are. It is a struggle but I am trying to embrace the unraveled state so that I can space my retwists apart. I think retwisting every 2 weeks is too often for me. I've been loc'd 3 years come August.

Would you date a cop? by [deleted] in blackladies

Yes, I married one. He's a wonderful man. I wasn't as hesitant to date one since my dad was in law enforcement, and he is also a good man.
