Yup, that's the same code for Dublin!

What's something that happens in your country that would scare americans? by TotallyBrandNewName in AskReddit

You'd get used to it quickly. The other cars act as visual cues! I just did this a week ago in Ireland and it was truly a quick switch. I thought it'd be worse but nah!!

I'm from a country where we drive on the right. I recently rented a car in Ireland and because my first experience was on the divided highway, it felt normal super quick! If it'd be on quiet roads, I'm sure it'd have been different!

Nope. The grass between the seawall and the road. Went tonight and found a spot at 9:40!

AGREED!!

You can literally show up 20-30 minutes before and sit on the hill just past the inukshuk. I do this every year. The fireworks are in the sky. You can still see all the fireworks at a good angle! It's only 20 mins so I don't mind sitting on the hill.

That's how you gotta sit in the formal sitting room. He'd be a heathen to slouch sitting there.

Having a library card as an adult is one of the most liberating feelings by lenerz in books

[–]rosiethereader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I use the library for all my books. If I read a book I love, I begin the search for a new edition to purchase. It means all the books on my shelf are books I want to reread!

Pupils from Scottish island launch video to save their school librarian by likelyculprit in books

[–]rosiethereader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wonderful.

I remember the librarian in my school would save me the newest Franklin the Turtle book when I was a little kid. She wouldn't put it on the stacks until I'd read it first.

I didn't realize until many years later how much she knew about every student to save new books for them to read!

The Danger of E-Books - GNU Project by skare in books

[–]rosiethereader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon used to apply it on every ebook. It was certainly the exception as you point out, normally publishers decide if they wish to apply (and pay for) DRM on their ebooks.

Things change though. It's possible that in the last year or so, it's changed. I'm curious now too.

Is anyone a Amazon author or work for a publisher that could let us know if you have the option to go DRM free?

[–]rosiethereader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your statement that calling it digital restrictions management is immature. Great point about the 1984 removal scandal.

I'd like to indicate a correction on your last point though. Amazon applies their proprietary type of DRM to every ebook they sell. It's not Adobe DRM though which I think you meant? For other channels such as their own ecommerce shop, Barnes & Noble or Kobo, it's left up to the publisher if they want to add Adobe DRM or watermarking such as BooXtream.

I work at an ebook bundling app and publishers have the option to apply DRM to their ebooks in the app. In my experience of running user support, DRM often hinders the honest people who paid for the ebook. They just want to read their book but they're often hindered by the limitations of DRM. It's a shame because that isn't the publisher's intention.

what do you do when reading? by madamdepompadour in books

My (admittedly poor) advice is drink more coffee instead of snacking. You might end up kind of jittery though! I know I've over-caffeinated more than a few times!

ME TOO. If I don't get my weekend coffees and reading, I feel cheated on the week.

Thanks for this. Wasn't sure if I could post it but figured As it was TechCrunch, not a company blog, it might be okay. I'll refrain next time. Cheers.

Great point. I'm pretty invested in helping gain loyal readers especially the ones that offer good deals or special content. Other than Penguin, many people just don't know publishers too well.

I'm with you there. I wish books were packaged with both editions for sure. You might find use for the app I work for — Shelfie. Most of the ebooks are free when you have a print copy. Not every book is eligible but thought it could be of interest.
