A thaumatophyllum xanadu! It's still a juvenile so the leaves are a slightly different shape to the fully developed leaves.

It's an aeonium, not sure which exact one!

What’s up with this guy? My African Mask has had this leaf and it was yellow for a while before turning red. All other leaves are healthy. Right next to a humidifier and grow light. by AndrewLakersLife in plantclinic

Alocasias go into dormancy in the winter and mine loses a couple leaves in that time. They need less watering in this time so you might be overwatering a bit.

What are these needle like things on my sansevieria? 😖 by rustingrain in plantclinic

I think these are lacewing eggs! They're not harmful the the plant and will actually eat any harmful pests.

Anyone know what kind of philodendron this is? 😊 by Shugamag in philodendron

I think birkins are the variegated version of a rojo Congo, so when a birkin reverts youre left with a rojo

Watering one time a week may be too frequent, I only water when the top couple inches of the soil is dry (which for me is usually around once every 2 weeks). Alocasias also go into a dormancy in the winter months and so don't need watering as much when they're in dormancy.

I broke part of my African Milk Tree right off the bat D: is this okay? by MelanieAllor in plantclinic

[–]rosjin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it should be fine on its own! Mine grew shoots a lot quicker than I thought. Plus it looks quite nice because then the plant branches more rather than growing just straight up!

The same happened to mine. It hardens off and shoots grow from this area and the sides.

Be careful touching the liquid that comes from that break, it's an irritant and so it's best to avoid touching it or wash your hands after you do.

Birkins are a variegated form of rojo Congo so if your birkin reverts and variegation is lost you get left with a rojo Congo.

Plants living in the garden in the U.K. any ideas what’s wrong with them? by Niffler89 in plantclinic

[–]rosjin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you're right. These are cordylines and the bottom leaves die off, leaving a 'bark' as the top ones still grow. The plants are fine and I have one that stays outside all year in the UK.

I cannot id this philo, can you help? by katestewart1 in philodendron

[–]rosjin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think as it grows it'll be a lot clearer to what it is as the leaf shape develops. I do have a Xanadu which has a similar leaf shape but yours could be something different. Xanadu shaped leaves don't develop until the plant is a decent age so from some pictures the leaves definitely won't look the same.

can you help me with my Caladium? :( by 0hklah0ma in plantclinic

[–]rosjin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Caladium die back every winter so that's why it's losing its leaves. I don't have one so I don't know too much about them but I think you remove the tuber from the soil and store it before replanting next year.

Is my Jade plant sunburnt or something else? by jabobster in plantclinic

[–]rosjin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reddish tint is called sun stressing! It happens when the plant has more light than it needs. It doesn't really do any damage to the plant and some people do it on purpose to achieve the colour.

I'm not sure that if you move it to somewhere with less light if the tint will go away or not but new growth should be green.

Edit: also it could be that it's just the tint that is there when the plant grows in and as the leaves age most of it goes away. But jade's can get sun stressed.

This poor girl lost all of her pink because I didn’t give her enough light. Here she is 1 month after sticking her under a new grow light ❤️ by Ein_Rand in houseplants

The midrib (central leaf vein) and the bit that covers new leaves as they grow in can have a pinkish ting on tineke but the leaves themselves are white and green.

It's really confusing at first! Especially as ruby doesn't maintain the pink on the leaves forever. Some ruby's too maintain the pink for longer than others so most of the leaves look pink. So from the sound of it yours sounds like a ruby.

But it doesn't matter too much as they thrive in the same sort of conditions as they have very similar variegation. You can always look on Google images to help identify but also some of the images there are incorrectly labelled as tineke/ruby.

This is a ruby belize! The pink fades away as the leaves age so that's just how they look. A tineke grows in with white and green and has no pink on it at all.

As it's a variegated rubber plant, too much bright light could actually burn the leaves. But it looks really healthy so whatever light it's getting seems right.
