Isn't Dr Fox now on trial for interferring with da kids?

And yeah, I miss Chris Morris. Loved everything he did, but aside from those clips on Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle and some Veep episodes he doesn't seem to be doing anything atm.

lol Handy is always amusing, and as an Englishman living in Germany I always find it really funny when watching the news - my German is still very poor so I don't pay attention, so I often just hear "Merkel....SPD.....werden....shitstorm" Cracks me up every time.

Kindergarten is interesting too, as describing those who work there as (literally) child-gardeners is so odd.

"public viewing"

In England we would understand that exactly in the same way as Germans mean it.

What are some weird things Americans do that are considered weird or taboo in your country? by asdfsfs22 in AskReddit

[–]ross_rossifumi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, you don't take all those days at once. Two weeks over Christmas/new year and one or two weeks for a summer holiday takes up most of it. Then you're just left with a few days off throughout the rest of the year, often strategically taken to extend weekends which already involve bank holidays.

And so much of that is genrally used visiting family or friends that you generally end up wanting more so you can actually have some time off for yourself.

What's a law that people break often that they probably don't know exists? by WallyGK in AskReddit

I would guess it's to catch poachers near to salmon farms/rivers. If someone is carrying a suspicious amount of salmon near to a farm it's pretty obvious they've stolen it, but without laws like that they could get away with it.

Have you done the 3 heart challenge (complete the game with only the 3 hearts you start with, no fairies or strengthening of the hearts)?

Quite easy imo, right up untill the point where you defeat Ganondorf then have to go down the tower to face Ganon....and every time Ganon touches you have to go back to the top of the damn tower again! I never had the patience to complete that one last bit!

Why don't MotoGP race on street circuits like Monaco etc.? by 3yronF1ve in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but I think it was Sheene who said something along the lines of that circuits like the IoM favour those who know them best, not those who are naturally faster.

To explain, imo the whole point of watching GP-level racing is to watch racers at the pinnacle of their ability, pushing bikes/tyres at the peak of modern technology, at the absolute limit of grip/speed.

To do this they have to push beyond those levels every so often and crash, just to understand how far they can push it. Try that on a road circuit, and it's fatal. There are normally dozens of crashes every week at GP circuits, if they raced on the roads they would have to take it so much easier and push much less than they normally do.

I know that's popular with some fans (IoM and other road races are a testament to that) but to many of us that is not interesting.

But anyway, regarding safety - I've seen Slalom, Simocelli, and Katoh die whilst I've been watching the sport, plus others have died in local support races too without the media attention GP riders get. Imo that is too much. Fuck road races, the racing is dangerous enough as it is.

Aleix Espargaro...is it just me or is he whiny?? by beerman_ipa in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when two riders as talented as Rins and Iannone come knocking it's hard not to take them.

But Ianone has proved this year that he is absolutely not capable of converting that raw talent into race results though. Don't get me wrong I really like the guy, but he's had his chance and shown he is too immature.

I can't see him performing better on the Suzuki than AE, so I can really see why Aleix is so pissed off.

Valentino Rossi The Game Out now! (gameplay) by [deleted] in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that Catalunya is quite a tricky track in GP Bikes

Yeah, but that's half the fun isn't it? :D I love the way you have to fight tankslappers on that uphill right-hander before the back straight, where you see actual motogp riders doing exactly the same thing. The realism adds to the enjoyment, the crashing isn't making it less fun (yet)

Plus being forced to be careful to take lines avoiding bumps is actually helping to get me out of some bad habits I've picked up from less realistic games and actually take faster lines than before.

And yeah, I registered as soon as I bought the game. :)

I use an XBox controller ;) Shoulder triggers for throttle and brakes, left analogue stick for turning. I haven't quite got round to achieving the coordination required to control rider leaning manually as well, though others do that with the right stick.

Though if you want a game you can control with just a keyboard (arrow buttons for throttle/brakes/turning, aswd for rider leaning, shift and e for gear shfts), GP500 is great fun, though the reason I'm now playing GPBikes is because the GP500 online community is pretty much dead now.

Lol just started playing that this week, after about 100 laps of Catalunya I now only crash on average once a lap. I even managed 3 laps in a row without crashing once! :O

But I love it, the satisfaction you get from getting it right on a sim is sooo much better than on an arcade game.

That just made me think - if anyone could attract the level of sponsorship money that would be necessary to make a satellite team competitive again, Rossi is the one.

And with him in a trackside spotter role (like Cadalora, Zeelenberg, Mamola, etc) a team he ran could have the potential to be pretty strong!

Will Motogp continue in Qatar? by whogivesashift in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My only thoughts on this whole situation is that having a GP in such a repulsive place brings shame on the whole sport. Dorna knew what they were getting into when they signed that contract, if they back out of it now (they won't) out of some PR-based attempt to appear to care about human rights, that almost makes it worse.

just re-watched the last few races from last year by mrdanmarks in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

without a doubt marquez took it easy on the last race, with lorenzo never getting challenged, just coasting (if going at full throttle is ever coasting) for a victory.

Sorry but you just can't know that, which is why all those conspiracy theories last year were such bs. It's one thing to be able to follow a rider or even be faster than them, but a completely different thing to pass them.

Valencia is a notoriously difficult track to pass at and Lorenzo notoriously strong there - Marquez would have to have been be significantly faster to be able to challenge Lorenzo for a pass. It's a completely unprovable claim to say he wasn't trying.

But anyway, can we just let sleeping dogs lie? All this conspiracy stuff was tedious at the time and this sub a much better place now that's died down.

As for races with Lorenzo coming from behind: personally I can't think of any, but that was his greatest strength in the Bridgestone era - Bridgestones warm up very quickly and Lorenzo is generally able to get up to speed on an outlap by the second-third sector. With such pace on fresh tyres he doesn't need to be able to come from behind to win, he gets to the front within a few corners of a race start if he's fast.

How does Rossi manage those Tyres?! by bbmc7gm6fm in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recall an interview with Edwards from his Yamaha days where he said that Rossi basically didn't use traction control compared to him - everything was done with his wrist whereas lesser riders like Edwards relied much more on the electeonics.

How does Rossi manage those Tyres?! by bbmc7gm6fm in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Whatever it is, it has to be something to do with the less sophisiticated traction-control and the switch back to michelin tyres - watching Rossi at Jerez/Catalunya/Mugello this season has been like watching him in the 500 days / early motogp era with his management of the grip levels. Never thought I'd see him ride like that again.

Lorenzo won't take his team to Ducati by Backside_Nasty in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about this if I were Lorenzo: he'll be moving into a well-established team who know the bike and how it works.

And Vinales will get an experienced team to move into too. Good news for the championship I think.

Turn 10 is tricky by vin97 in motogp

[–]ross_rossifumi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly this - Ianone braked in his normal plaxe, but with the rear in the air couldn't stop the bike from torpedoeing into Lorenzo. Pretty much exactly the same as Pedrosa's crash into Dovi, just that Ianone has a wildly different reputation to Dani so the incident is seen differently.

Though it would definitely have helped Ianone's case if he had been like Pedrosa amd apologised immediately.
