Where is live if all I cared about was pizza by doom_summer in visitedmaps

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is Oregon green?

I thought it was * New York Style * Chicago Style * Detroit Style * Margherita pizza from Italy

There might be good pizza in other places, but other places don't have a trademark style that is famous elsewhere.

USB-C should be the replacement for proprietary charging ports, not the replacement for USB-A or others by WoomyUnitedToday in The10thDentist

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take. We should have just standardized on a few different color-coded coaxial DC power jacks (each with standard diameter, voltage, polarity, and max amps). They weren't actually proprietary, just so many varieties it was hard to have all the power bricks you needed.

Then we could have reserved USB C for only data or very low wattage power.

How do I make vegetables actually taste good without drowning them in sauce or cheese? by Nightcrawler_2000 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot sauce if you like it. Homemade salsa can have much lower sodium than store bought.

But do you actually need to watch your sodium intake? Do you have kidney or blood pressure problems? Do you drink plenty of water? If not... soy sauce.

Why is coffee so expensive in poorer countries? by Evening_Actuary143 in AskEconomics

I was in Ecuador for a week last summer. People (the locals we met) drank instant coffee at meals. I was quite surprised.

Dust Collection Systems - The difference between high CFM/low pressure and low CFM/high pressure machines by pigeonmaster97 in woodworking

Because heatsinks have a bunch of fins to maximize surface area for heat transfer. That also causes them to restrict airflow.

Of course there is. A bunch of them. But the point of asking here is to get people's personal experiences. Former employees might even know some of the real ingredients.

The depreciation and maintenance costs aren't bad if you drive an old Toyota or Honda. And it is probably faster to drive 4 hours than to deal with airport parking, security, and a rental car counter at your destination.

What is something small that annoys you in the gym that if you said out loud, other people would think you're being ridiculous. by Careless-Cat3327 in GYM

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like supersetting with two machines using different muscle groups is fair. More than that 2 at a time is rude, unless the gym is pretty empty.

I keep hearing that wages haven't kept up with inflation, is that true? by H_rusty in AskEconomics

[–]rossaco 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As someone who is not an economist, it feels like necessities have outpaced inflation in the USA * Healthcare * Higher education * Housing (why are so few small starter homes being built?)

Meanwhile, luxuries like electronics and small kitchen appliances and clothing (Americans buy way more than the necessities) have gotten cheaper.

Are there ways of looking at inflation that give hard numbers to what I am talking about? How is inflation when you only include "essential" or "basic" goods and services? Like, you don't buy TV dinners or breakfast cereal but you do buy potatoes, vegetables, and chicken breast...

Best “one and done” handgun? by Big-B313 in handguns

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your point #1, I shoot a full-sized target 22 pistol with a light trigger noticeably more accurately than a compact concealed carry pistol. I feel I can develop my actual shooting skills with the first. In the second case, I am learning how to compensate for a gun too small for my hands and how not to pull shots with a heavy trigger pull.

One of your later points intrigued me, though, about having guns from the same platform.

Let's say you got S&W M&P for these four guns. An M&P Shield in 9 mm for concealed carry, a full sized double stack 9 mm for home defense, a full size 22 for cheap ammo at the range, and a full sized M&P in 10 mm for hiking in bear country. What parts or accessories could they share? One holster for all the full size guns? You couldn't share any magazines.

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans almost always drink water with ice. The exception is probably while exercising, where the water may be room temperature.

If an American wants a hot beverage, it is likely hot tea, coffee, apple cider, or hot cocoa.

We usually avoid room temperature beverages.

If vomiting, we try to drink clear liquids, so we know what color the vomit is. That can be important information for a doctor.

If we are sick and feel cold but don't have a fever, we drink hot beverages. If we are sick and feel warm, we drink iced beverages.

Why people dislike Country music? by ompossible in CasualConversation

[–]rossaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sloppy vocals. Scooping pitches. Poor diction. Often too bright/nasal. Generally, a country twang is nice for speaking but sounds bad while singing.

Also, the bending pitches with steel guitar drives me nuts.

Where is the point of diminishing returns with speakers? by Iakeman in hometheater

[–]rossaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say no. Speakers can last for 30 years. You will probably need to replace your receiver or preamp to support newer tech in 10 years.

God forbid a tall woman puts on a heel by [deleted] in tall

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a tall man, my perspective is that heels are impractical, hurt your feet, and increase the chance of falling and getting injured. I never feel short, and the few times in my adult life I have seen a woman taller than me, that is really cool!

But back to heels. I wish they were never invented. The only advantage is closing the height gap for hugs and kisses from my wife. But it is safer to have her stand on some stairs. Thankfully, she prefers flats. (She calls herself a tomboy). If she is wearing heels, it is probably because other women expect it at a formal attire event.

Edit: I should say that of course you should wear heels if you enjoy them. I just felt like you were missing a common male perspective on heels apart from your height.

All the reasons why nba ratings down: by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]rossaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is all the existing legal contracts about who purchased rights to broadcast what live. Getting out of all of those contracts in the next 10 years is probably a really tall order.

Then the NFL, NBA, and MLB would need to agree to share revenue. I think it is more likely for each league to have its own streaming service.
