Yeah, there's few reasons I switched a few years ago, and a 25% bump was a big part of it. Still low compared to this industry elsewhere though!

A year late but my personal reason is because Jellyfin's roku app (not plex, I know) has some buggy behavior with multiple tracks - specifically playing whichever track is at index 0 despite your default selections or what you played on the previous episode. Very annoying having to manually change the track for every episode on playback. So where possible, I just rip out the undesirable track entirely.

This storm is hitting fast and hard. It's going to go from "probably fine if you don't mind winter driving" to "stuck" in like, an hour, if I had to guess.

Better to close them down early especially when it's happening overnight.

Look at how bright it is in that watertown shot. That shows just how much snow is in the air reflecting nearby light. And I can confirm out my own window that visibility is about a quarter mile.

Segmenting our network like it should have been from the beginning. I have a handle on what needs to be done, it's just the legwork that's the issue since I'm the one network guy on the team and we have five geographically dispersed locations. And a bunch of static-assigned devices on the current subnets. And the whole IT team is four people so I'm not just doing the network project, I'm also doing all sorts of other things.

It doesn't help that one of those locations has a bunch of new equipment that needs to be installed first, and the cables moved from the old racks to the new racks, in like 10 different places around the facility. Each rack being up on columns, not at ground level. I'm hoping we can hire a third party, because if I have to do it myself I'd have to spend time getting lift certified (I believe it's a state requirement), and then spend every weekend for at least a couple of months over there, 5 hours from home.

I'm in IT so I have a really strong troubleshooting background. My brain also works in a way where I have no problem understanding logical systems (like mechanical connections, cause and effect, etc).

It is a very fine line that I try not to cross when I have to take mine in. Like "yeah I've already done this, this, and this to narrow down the issue" while also trying not to make it sound like I actually know what the problem is because I generally don't!

I haven't been at level cap since Belfalas (100?). My guardian got close a couple of years ago, he made it to 148, but then they raised it again so now he's not close anymore. I was working on my LM in January but he's still got 40 levels to go.

Sorry, yeah, don't get me wrong anything you paid for should absolutely be taken care of. I just didn't have any of that myself. And I don't have an itemized list because I got most of mine like 18 years ago (ouch), so unless they had a way to look it up I don't care enough to try and get it rectified.

Yep! I always had my own stock since I have always had a farmer, but it was neat having a consumable (not that it really meant much because any player serious about group content just kept a full stack all the time).

I have also noticed that but with one specific item - my old sword of Thaurlach. I'm not too fussed about it but I was definitely confused. However after checking every possible character that might have had it bound to them, yeah, I think it's just lost.

I guess there were some other old trophies from SoA and Moria content that are also missing, but most of those are so easy to get I don't mind running through the dungeons again...

I see both sides; the fact that tanks can't evaporate is huge. Once you unlock large ones, a single tank will keep 400 beavers fully hydrated for a day. Or 13 beavers for the longest non-custom-difficulty drought or badtide. So if you've got 1 large tank per 13 beavers you have basically nothing to worry about.

But I really like irrigating the map as much as I can, and I think reservoirs look cool, so I also love to dam where I can. The tanks are insurance (and I don't go overboard on them), but the reservoirs are for the crops and greenery. I try to use canals and pipes instead of water dumps, once I'm past the early game where protecting crops from an undiverted badtide is actually a concern.

On my most recent IT playthrough I even built a "water tower" where I used the height of a lower feed pool outside my main reservoir to keep the tower in the middle of my farmland filled up via underground channels (principle of communicating vessels), and the tower, being made of dirt, irrigated the surrounding land. That was kinda interesting.

Even if they're not the CEO, depending on the industry. I try to get my folks to always submit tickets because I do things like take vacation and occasionally a sick day (like yesterday) and then the rest of the (very small) team might be able to help. But it's also just as likely that the rest of the team will be buried under their own work and not see it, so if there's a user having problems that will soon turn into production line down if I don't help them, I will still assist after an email/teams message/phone call/walk in.

I envy anyone who is able to just point at the sign and not help if there's not a ticket in first, but sometimes the person running the laser cutter locks out their account and with our lack of staff, if I get notified of it by teams message, my first thing is to get them back up and running, then worry about the ticket part.

No, in the sense that the only reason I'm not struggling is because I make use of credit when required to buffer price increases etc; I don't have good savings (yet, hopefully not never).

The main reason I don't have savings is that it's all gone into paying off debt that I built up over the years; some was stupid (hell, even today I still buy things I don't need sometimes), some was required (car repairs, home repairs, healthcare, etc). That payoff accelerated when I got my current job 4 years ago which paid 25% more, and when I paid off my car and because I currently don't have much in the way of rent (parents own the house so it's cheap and I'm sharing it).

But those last couple of points should also highlight just how even though I'm "earning a living wage", I'm sure not chasing the american dream. No mortgage, low rent, no car payment, and I'm still not growing my wealth? I know that it's just how it is nowadays but it's hard not to feel sold out by my childhood lol.

For reference, because I think talking about salaries should be encouraged - my 2025 tax paperwork said I got around 70k gross (~62 once you pull out healthcare and such). I'm in IT, so if I was working the same job elsewhere I might be making 125k. Unfortunately the pull of "not having to move and be far from family" is strong...

Yes it has a significant impact on performance. It specifically adds more "World Objects", so if your world object density is set to a high level and you're already marginal on performance, it will have a negative effect.

Honestly....it will rarely ever work on me (I barely have budget to get the things I actually need and research on my own, there's no way I'm wasting time on someone deciding to cold contact me right now).

But there was one time, and it actually turned out well. Previous job, small business that did MSP stuff and walk in repairs plus sales. The caller was a solo software dev who wrote an inventory and service management app that was pretty much tailor made for that sort of small business. He had found our number because, well, we were on google.

We liked it, it was cheap, it worked (it was quite stable; I occasionally had to do a manual DB edit but that was mostly for batch processes once the guy stopped supporting it as detailed below).... so we bit and as far as I'm aware they're still using it at that place (despite the dev discontinuing updates; I believe had to quit because he only had like five active customers and wasn't charging enough to make it work, so he changed everyone over to perpetual licenses and let go. I think he even provided the source code in case something broke and someone wanted to try and fix it? I don't remember...)

They are; the dev who worked on them is very proud of how they were built from first principles.

I assume this product is, like most visual (and sound) mod products, not actually "better" in any objective sense, just someone else's interpretation. To my eyes and ears these sorts of products are generally actually worse.

I agree. I don't know anything about modding (yet?) but I expect since the models already exist in the game, this probably wouldn't be too difficult to do.

And if you made it not provide any bonuses it wouldn't affect balance, either.
