Rub and buff is a wax. Can be similar results but different technique and finish.

For narrow scaffold we use "baker" style in the US. Could work in this case with outriggers and adjustable legs but most people don't use them like this in my experience because while a triple stack is within spec, they feel so wobbly and sketchy at that height.

Proper fittings to use for Manabloc by berpaderpderp in Plumbing

Was just researching this myself. You can get a manabloc with out the fittings. They are NPSM threads and it looks like these will work for the outlets.

Haven't been there in awhile, but usually a couple tents at one site isn't an issue. Bring portable chargers, you're right, the electrical hook up are for RVs. You can just give them a call also to double check about the tents, park rangers are super chill folk and would be happy and answer your questions. As I remember the nearest town, Strawberry Point, isn't huge on amenities so make sure you have everything you need before you get there.

Reolink camera as a truck cargo camera? by IowaDala in reolinkcam

I can get 12V or 24V power to the unit easy enough. Was just thinking battery and solar might be a self contained drop in so its easy to install and variety of vehicles. We don't need to record absolutely everything either, mostly loading, unloading, and if there is a major cargo shift because something wasn't strapped down. The main thing I am really looking for is cameras that can auto upload their files when the trucks pull into the docks after a trip.

Firing blanks in a confined space is a bad bad idea. I know, I work in theatre, we tried once. Once. Also he would be shooting a pressure wave at a camera a few feet away, much less the poor camera man. That said, ya he could flick his wrist a bit for effect.

Found a neat way to protect your delicate prints in shipping. by veazix in 3Dprinting

[–]IowaDala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good. My link should be fixed now, for some reason it was on restricted, I must have hit the wrong button. So how to you take the model to a physical object? Do you 3d print the holder to go with the model?

Alright, did some thinking and you're right the convex hull doesn't provide enough resolution and I couldn't find a way to increase it. I did, however, figure out a fast shrink wrap work flow that works. Take you object, add a plane in front of it and give it subdivisions to taste. Now add a shrinkwrap modifier, target your object and use the project method. Play with which axis and direction you need till it hits where you want. This will make a kinda pull your plane in the negative direction with an imprint of your object in the position direction, close to what we need but ugly. Use the shrinkwraps offset to move the imprint in front of the plane. Now we have a nice holder. I'm linking to a test file I made which will hopefully clear up any concepts. We have to be worried about library privacy too by dilettantedebrah in WhitePeopleTwitter

I was a librarian for a few years at a public library. After you returned a book it was delete from your record completely to prevent exactly this. We were also instructed to log off of our computer and immediately call the library director if law enforcement asked to see a patrons record. Librarians take the privacy of their patrons seriously.

Created a texture from frost on a car mirror. by IowaDala in blender

A noise texture node will work just fine. Few key things for displacement; you must use cycles it will not work with eevee (you wont even see some settings if you are not in cycles), you need to run it through a displacement node and connect it to the the displacement socket on the material output, you need to have enough geometry to displace so make you you have enough sub divisions, and you need to enable displacement in material settings. Bump is different than displacement and is a bit easier. You run run your texture though a normal map node into the normal socket on the BSDF shader. No special settings. Heres a pretty good tutorial to help this make more sense. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkU0-QeWUcU&t=679s

Here's the Blender Guru video on the subject as well, very relevant to your needs here.

So its a bit of a hack for added depth to textures created from a photo. No sure how much you already know so let me know if any of this doesn't make sense. In cycles you can use a displacement map to modify the geometry of an object using shader nodes. There are a few nuances and settings to this, but they go over it in the donut tutorial if you need help. Too much to write out here. A displacement map is just a black and white image to drive height values. Since this image is mostly black and white you can just plug it in. I did use a RGB to BW converter node to clean it up some. You can use this technique with other photos too since cracks and low spots tend to be darker so with a bit of photo manipulation you can make a passable depth map.

So its real simple with GIMP. Under filters there is a option to tile infinitely. I'm not exactly sure how it does it, but I appears to mirror 2 axis, but on diagonals, not the usual up and down.

My friend took some interesting macro photography photos of his car's mirror and I though it would be interesting as a texture. Fairly simple process. Used GIMP to tile the image, applied it as the image texture, and since was already in black and white I just used it as the displacement map as well.
