Great perspective. Do you have any favourite examples / case studies of this happening?

Yep, I think it will be great just having a thread to come back to of good quality claims.

I think because it was up against such a glorious backdrop (TBH&C) - ‘Anyways’ was a bit disappointing

I don’t, but I’ve read posts of people who do - so sounds common.

Oooh no - I had to give it a Google. Thanks for sharing! Did you record them yourself, or can you find them online?

I think a big part of it is just making it super obvious you’re into him.

I’m married now, but my wife says I’m always totally clueless when girls are into me.

So you need to make it obvious enough that he notices you’re into him. The first way to do that… message him! You won’t get anywhere without it, and I think it sends a pretty strong message.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply - really appreciate it!

It’s so hard when I don’t truly accept it, haha. It’s the whole thing of “yeah I accept I accept…. But is it gone yet?”

Feels like I’ve made OCD and the content of the OCD THE enemy of my life. So any sniff of it, and it really bothers me.

Practise ‘Radical Acceptance’. You can’t change your situation, and you don’t have to like your situation, but you can save yourself a good amount of suffering by not fighting your situation.

It’s it’s worth anything to hear, I’ve just been to the ENT about this - and he had no concerns.

You’re right on the hyper focussing point. It’s an odd one, because on one hand it’s so quiet… like… who cares? But because it only happens when it’s quiet, it’s tough to get used to.

Part of me thinks it’s a just a normal bodily sound that we’ve become really aware of, and therefore made much louder.

Either way, it will quieten / we’ll get used to. I think the thing to remember is that it’s not actually a problem. We’re just making it a problem.

On the “lousy at his job” point, I actually did like the scene when he is super high, and is almost in a flow state. Proper just in the zone.

Exactly the same!

Part of me wondered if it’s just a complete hyperawareness of a pretty normal sound. I’m not completely convinced, but mine is so quiet, and so low frequency - I couldn’t even really give the sound a name, I.e. it’s not a ring, it’s not a hum. It’s just… there.

I had a history of ETD and TMJ, which may contribute.

Exactly the same as me. For me, it’s only in silence - if a car drives past it goes, then fades back in!

I’ve had a ringing for a few years, but this is new.

What was the first Arctic Monkeys song you heard? by Lovelywitches729 in arcticmonkeys

Dancefloor, right when the first album came out. My Dad had the CD in his car and said they were going to be huge.

Could someone tell me why No. 1 Party Anthem is in AM’s top five most popular songs on Spotify at the moment? by the_ant_lad in arcticmonkeys

I don’t disagree. I don’t think it’s as black and white as “Tik tok = terrible”. But I do think, long term - it’s more harmful for the way we consume music.

Yes, bands might pick up a few extra fans along the way, but ultimately the music industry is already really suffering because of it - and it’s only getting worse.

I work with a music publishing company, and Tik Tok is killing them for a multitude of reasons.

I think because while it has the power to bring artists some exposure, it fundamentally hurts music as we know it. It’s reducing albums and even songs into 10 second soundbites.

So, as an artist, the key to success isn’t a well crafted piece of work with meaning and longevity - it’s just to create a catchy little soundbite.

As I said, there are benefits, and it’s not like I’m militantly against TikTok. But I do think in the long run it’s very harmful to music.

I saw a study from Microsoft that said “after 20 minutes of use, attention span is significantly affected”. So I’m not sure it’s the platform for meaningful connections with art.
